this relates to the whole qantas thing thats been going on that ive been weakly following

i went to a flight simulator in the city the other day. first time flying, woman was convinced i'd done it before, after only watching 20 min instructional video. it's essentially a glorified bus driver.

and that pilots basically do very very little except supervise the plane

Pilots are not paid anyway near that. Max probably 150- 200k and thats absolutely pushing it. I was thinking about attempting to become one (it's bloody hard though); not only because it's great money, and you get all the chicks, but you get to travel everywhere. However, i've resided in my interest with how they work, etc..

These pilots/ engineers wanting more money are just stupid, (im guessing thats what its about- i've only caught glimpses on the news) they get paid well over whats needed. I hate greedy people; especially when there are people out there that can bearly afford to put food on the table - that is if they can even get a gaff to live in.

Australian pilots are paid reasonably well.

American pilots however are not. They go to flight school (100K+) and come out of it to land jobs flying 50 seat commuter planes inter state for... wait for it... 30K a year. If I was an American pilot i would be more annoyed.

The Australian Qantas workers should be paid more however though and their industrial action is justified (and should be taken much further), with hopefully other Australian airline staff joining the fight against evil corporate greed as well and all commercial flights stopped in Australia for a 2 week period. After that the companies might realize they really should be paying their staff better after no one flys for 2 weeks (other than military charter planes).

Do you want your life and the life of your family in the hands of some lesser trained pilot who is not as prepared to deal with any incident that may occur?

Pilots are worth every dollar they are paid if they save passenger life's and get them to their destination safely.
