School/uni provides education, life provides knowledge, it's just a small shortcut as you get the knowledge from uni or whatever instead of having to learn it yourself.

With that said, if you have some good idea, drop out and work for it, if not, may as well go to uni (it'll still be helpful even if you did have some sort of idea/concept).

Yes those people are successful and they dropped out but think about it. What are the chances of you becoming famous and successful like them? They obviously are very talented, I'm not putting you down or anything (just being realistic), but unless you have a good idea like listed above that you feel that you can dedicate to or you have some sort of talent, then by all means drop out. I'm not sure about Steve Jobs, but Bill Gates dropped out from Harvard University so to a degree it does demonstrate his intelligence.

Main picture is, be realistic about the outcomes of your decisions. What if dropping out goes wrong? In my opinion, it'd be safer to go to University, earn a degree and through that you'll have something to fall back on in terms of employment and financial stability. There's much more to that, but I advise you to think from a broader perspective.

Argument is pretty void when you contrast the success stories to the endless list of people who didn't strike gold.

Just because you drop out of school, doesn't mean you're going to be a billionaire, there's no guarantee.

Taking HSC, going to University.. I think.. It just gives you a better chance at getting jobs (and not failing in life)? ('Cause you have qualifications etc)

You should stick school out till the end, even if you do badly in your hsc these years are an experience that you wont ever have again and you'll be suprised by how much that may mean to you some day. it's not worth giving up just because you may make mistakes or not do as well as everyone else (unless your school is rife with bulling and is making you depressed, then you should see a school councilor about changing schools to somewhere that doesn't suck)

And as far as university goes, I will agree that uni isn't a requirement of sucess. My father dropped out of uni because he decided that the costs of the degree weren't worth the benifits of the jobs he could get from it, so he used the skills he learnt from personal experience and his schooling to start his own buisness. 30 years later it's still going strong, its not a million dollar industry by any stretch of the imagination but it has been more than enough for my family to live and live very, very well. The point however is that success is never a given, you will need to work very, very hard to get a job without a degree, especially since most of your competition will have degrees. If you want to make your own buisness then you will need to have some way to seperate yourself from the competition (many of which will have degrees coming out the wazoo) as well as the luck needed to get that sort of thing off the ground, so dropping out of uni will be the most difficult option of the two, are you willing to go through with that?

And thirdly, all the people you listed started their careers many decades ago. Back then a lot less people were able to get degrees or develope the skills of bill gates and steve jobs, so the need for a degree was less necissary for them. Today things are different, more and more people are capable of getting degrees and succeeding. If you can't stand out from that crowd then you will be left behind, thats just natural selection.

If you do drop out, I have some great ideas that you could use to make some things up.

- A site that lets you add friends and write on each other's profiles. Would be popular because it lets people keep in touch.
- A site that lets you constantly make updates about what you're doing etc etc. Would be popular because it lets people know what you're doing.
- A site where you can send emails to other people. Would be popular because it lets people send email to each other.

Let me know how that goes.

If you fail, you can always spend the next 20-30 years doing hard labour work. Srsly, stick to uni.

nah don't drop out of High School; most employers need HSC certification now. You know, for the initial investment into your digging for gold...

Bill Gates dropped out from Harvard not high school. He was a child prodigy/genius who was hired in the 8th grade to write computer programs. He only dropped out because he was 100% sure his company would succeed.

Pointless, just because you drop out of school and do drugs etc won't make you rich, it's a 1 in 6 billion chance so you're pretty much ruining your life if you drop out to do drugs etc
