I'm a maths accelerant, and I just received an HSC mark of 46 in my 3 unit course with a 45 internals and 46 externals mark.
Now, I've been told that if I continue into 4 unit (accelerated), then my mark will double.
But does this mean that my internal/external marks will double and give me a new average of 91, or will I get 92 from doubling my total mark of 46?
If I'm getting 91, it might seem that I'm better off not doing 4 unit, or repeating 3 unit with 4?
Or if I'm getting 92, then it may seem unfair for non-accelerants who will get a 91 from a 90-92 mark.
How does this work?

You do not need to worry at all because they only use the RAW internal and RAW external mark. How the stats are reported does not matter! You will get the scaled mark for this year's MX1. That will be added to your aggregate for next year.

So if you scaled mark per unit is 45, then it will 'double' to 2x45 for next year.

UAC uses your raw exam mark and your moderated assessment mark. The 91 or 92 doesn't become a factor in the scaling process.

Nonetheless, you will be reported with an E4, and I believe it will be a 91.

Funny thing is that I got those exact same marks and doing the exact same thing. AFAIK, it will be 91.

How did you find out? Received your raw marks?
Well, Board of Studies reports you with whole numbers but they work with decimal numbers. If you get 45 and 46 then logically your /100 mark would be 45+46/100=91/100. I didn't apply for raw marks - skeptical since my mark would have been 60/84 and I answered like...60 marks worth...

If you got 46 internal and 46 external then you would get 92/100 - if you got 45 and 45 then it would obviously be 90.

Oh wait, since for last year, you didn't sit the Extension 2 exam, you get reported with a score out of 50.

So....you may have gotten 45 and 46, but that could really be 45.4 and 46.4 (ie. when rounded, they are 45 and 46), and when averaged, it's 46. But, when using a number out of 100, ie. 90.8 and 92.8, so when using whole numbers, it's 91 and 93, giving you 92 (and not 91).

You're going to have to wait until later this year to know if you got 91 or 92.

After some thought, if it was 44.5 and 45.5 then it could be 90. 45.4 and 46.4 gives 91.8 so it can range from 90-92. Interesting.
