the 100k you get is not worth having to work in a crappy area for 6 years and limited specialising options.

you still pretty much need the same minimum atars, umats as you usually would, except you are open to more places in the selection process.

the last thing you want to do after working 6 years of med school is to be shipped off to become a gp in some rural area. It has to be rural...so RA3-5, which, no offense, is terrible.
It restricts your speciality
it's hard to get back into the city if thats what you want
the penalty for breaking the contract is HUGE.
Honestly, defs not worth the money, not at all. You'll make that difference working one year as a specialist compared to the standard GP.

I do understand what you guys mean, but that said I just want to be a standard gp and in addtion I live in the country and I dont want to live in the city either. That said do you guys still think its not worth it?

It's your decision, and make sure you read all the contract requirements/understand it fully before you sign up.
I don't know much about medicine, or the different ways to do it etc however my personal opinion is if you want to be a doctor, and this is the way to do it, then I would say go for it. The fact that you are from the country, and want to practice as a GP in the country, makes it seem a pretty good way to go. [That, and rural areas are really in need of doctors. Someone needs to go to there!]
MRBS Scheme doctors can choose where they work, and for whom they work, when undertaking the RSO. MRBS Scheme doctors will be able to work anywhere under the ASGC-RA classification system in locations currently categorised as RA2 (Inner Regional Australia) to RA5 (Very Remote Australia). - quoted from Department of Health and Ageing website

Most rural areas actually have better GP coverage than city ones, because so many international doctors have to work there (10 years, as part of reg). Real problem is in outer city places.

u cant go straight into general practice if ur an international doctor. u might be able to work in a GP super clinic as a trainee, but those are rare in rural areas. most of them are private practices. the international doctors actually work in regional hospitals as HMOs (residents). "Rural" and "remote" areas are still in major shortage.
