Is someone's final HSC mark determined by 'moderating' it against people in their HSC year at their school, or by comparing it against the whole of the NSW results? Or both?

It's for each subject man, if you have 5 people in yr 12 doing physics, for example, then your mark wont fluctuate too much, and it wont be dragged down too much (assuming these 5 people are decent at physics). If there's 100 people doing physics, there will likely be large fluctuation, so in order to minimize fluctuation you must be 1st or as close to 1st as possible.
