Not exactly a Trig Proof, but here's the answer anyway:

$\\ \sqrt{8 - 4 \sqrt 3} = \sqrt{\sqrt6 ^2 - 2 \times \sqrt 6 \times \sqrt 2 + \sqrt 2 ^2} = \sqrt{(\sqrt 6 - \sqrt 2)^2} = \sqrt 6 - \sqrt 2$
