It means that it has no explicit dependence on time. It's a method for turning a DE into a matrix equation so that you can use matrix methods on it.
yeah, i was asking SD if he knew what he meant :p

I will eventually know what it means... after the lecture, and possibility after consulting with the lecturer, fellow maths students in the course, students who have taken the course in the past, Wikipedia, Google - and if all else fails, the snickometer.

With how this economy's going, we're all going to end up working at McDonalds, KFC, or somewhere similar. 8'D (Or, well, most of us. Ah, depressing reality...)
switch to teaching instead :p There's definitely a shortage of teachers, especially good ones, and in particular, maths teachers :p

Teaching jobs are kind of going down the drain too. More and more schools are cutting down on the number of teachers to save money. They're getting teachers with no teaching qualifications for a specific subject to teach that subject, in addition to the subject that they actually have qualifications for.

I guess anything in the public sector is going down.

But then again, the rate of decrease of teachers ain't that much anyway. Also, given that tonnes of the baby boomer teachers are retiring soon, they need a lot more of the current generation to fill in the teaching positions.

Also, given that we have an increase in population, there will be an increase of the no. of schools as well, and thus, more teachers needed. So I guess there's a bit of a counter balance???

There is a bit of a counter balance, but I believe that this counter balance will only last for a "short" amount of time. Birth rates around the world will eventually go down as countries' economies (and education levels) begin to improve. Lower birth rates will result in the shutting down of various schools due to fewer students, thus decreasing the number of teachers needed.

On top of that, though there are many baby boomer teachers retiring soon, there are also thousands of new teachers that will enter the workforce when they leave. There is no actual shortage of teachers. There is just a lack of money required to hire them, a lack of schools that are required to open up positions for them, etc.

Fair point, considering long term issues too. Nice one :p

But we do know that there is a lack of good teachers who can actually teach. Relatively, there are lots of teachers, but I think that the actual shortage lies on the fact that there aren't enough dedicated teachers out there. Probably a lot of teachers, with some vacancies, but a lot of them aren't that great, as far as I know by word of mouth.

Looking at the long term changes is my specialty. ;D

And you're definitely right about that. There's a lack of good, dedicated teachers. But schools have limited funds - most of them will settle on "regular" teachers, because they're the ones that usually don't mind getting paid less.

Well I'm going to attend it for a first hand look of the finance lecture. If it's shit, then I'm not gonna go. If we have to copy answers then I'd go

Probably gonna go to the lectures, then hit the gym, after gym, go home, finish tutoring stuff and then start studying for MATH1251 and ACTL1001. Really need to be consistent this semester. :/
