So i was wondering how much school ranking affects your atar?
i read that it was disregarded if you got high ranking in school, is that true/

It has absolutely no bearing whatsoever.

A school "ranking" is calculated after the final results are tabulated to form a crude representation of a school's performance in a given year. It is calculated just out of interest.

This, the school rankings have no bearing on your ATAR - the list is not official and its method of ranking schools is of dubious reliability.

oh ok thanks, i was reading in an atar estimate thread, people were asking for the school ranking to determine the estimate

We ask for the school rank to kind of make an estimate of how intelligent the rest of your cohort is.

For example, if we compare a person ranked 10th in a top 50 school to a person in a 200-250 school, we would guess that the person in the top 50 school will get a better ATAR because he/she is up against a presumably competitive grade.
