a good way to do it is break your paragraphs into sections and put a number next to each. and when you read to memorise you associate the number with it and it gives a bit of flow. i usually only do this for introductions though.
This. And if it's an English essay, just remember examples, quotes & techniques + topic sentences.

LOL your not going to remember an essay by listening to it from your ipod or typing it out. The best way to learn it is once you've typed up your essay print it out and start copying it out on another piece of paper. Literally start writing it out with pen and paper. Practice this way twice a day leading up to your assessment/exam day. If you practice consistently then what your writing in your essay will start getting stuck in your head. By exam day you should be able to memorise most of your essay. You might not remember exactly everything from your essay but you'll know most of the ideas, techniques etc
PS: All my assessment tasks required me to memorise essays, I've done this method and it has worked. Practicing your essay by writing out is the best way i reckon.

That's not true. Some people study differently. It depends on whether the student is an audio/visual learner. For the half-yearly, I listened to a voice memo of my english essay on my iPhone, and I remembered at least 75% of it. There is no BEST way to study, as it differs from person to person.

I recall being able to memorize my essay by typing it out and reading it out at the same time. Worked out for me

I find the best way is to read through it a few times then just start writing out the essay from start to finish on some paper. It takes as little as 3-4 times for me (and I have a terrible memory) to memorise my essays this way and you memorise it in a flowing way, rather then memorising lines at a time which can potentially set you up mental blanks.

Since I normally spend 5 minutes to write a single sentence when I write it up at home, I tend to read my essay almost a hundred times over as I write it so I can remember a bit of it that way but that's just me
You can easily memorise what each paragraph is about by summarising the idea/technique you're talking about. It's okay if you don't remember the essay word for word but as long as you remember what you're supposed to write in all your body paragraphs, your intro and conclusion then you're all good. Remembering quotes is a different story though, you gotta learn those off by heart

About 1 hour per essay. I read each paragraph and then try to remember about 2-3 sentences in one go. Obviously, I miss quite a few words, so I recite 5-10 times and check when necessary. Then next 3 sentences. However, after memorising its good to write it out a few times, to really get it cemented in your mind.

That's sort of what I did. I wasn't satisfied until I was able to blind-type it out and arrive at the exact same word count. I spend countless hours making my essays sound beautiful, I wasn't going to ruin it by not memming it properly!I recall being able to memorize my essay by typing it out and reading it out at the same time. Unfortunately I had to spend a lot of time memorizing my essays that I was memorizing such that I didn't get enough time to memorize my other essays (module A and B), in which I wrote those up on the spot. I'm horrible at memorizing stuff I actually need to memorize :/
Just a note to others, time is ticking away quickly, think of an effective way to memorize your essays.

Ouch =/. Did you have essays prepared for them? I guess if you'd written prepared responses, the essay you came up with on the spot would've still resembled what you'd prepared, despite not memorising?
In any case, it's fun to look back in hindsight =]. How's this sem going for you?
