Just checked and according to the WHO timeline (summarised on the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progress_of_the_SARS_outbreak) it originated in Guangdong in or before November 2002. It didn't reach HK until February 2003 when a doctor from Guangdong who was sick with the virus traveled to HK.
