School rank 300's in 2010 (i am in the best cohort so far though)

2U maths 14/34
Standard English 9/34
Business 1/32
Economics 3/9
Legal 2/12
IPT 5/16

Trial marks

2U maths 70% ( overly hard school paper
Standard English 75% independent paper
Business 93% cssa paper
Economics 90% school paper
Legal 91% school paper
IPT 76% school paper

can you give two estimates. One based on ranks along, and one with ranks and marks

Edit. My business teacher says I will definitely get a band so yay!!

I agree, high 80's maybe cracking the 90's :)

OP just based on what you said for your marks, in saying "overly hard school paper" when you scored 70%. I am not being harsh here, but if you are ranked 14/32 in your school, you would be looking at a low band 5 in maths, and a raw mark that correlates to that in the HSC exam is around 65%. So don't get ahead of yourself in regards to your mathematics test being overly hard, it was probably just a normal test.

but good luck for your studies :)

I would fucking love a band 5 in maths. The top mark was 84% I believe

To be honest I would like ( I am aiming) for the following

Maths (Band 5)
Standard English (Band 5, doubtful due to aligning)
Business (band 6)
Economics (band 6)
Legal (band 6)
IPT (Band 4-5, hopefully will save me if I mess up maths)

If I can get those I will be very happy. And yes, I know i am ranked 14th in maffs, i just know no one liked the exam and that no one did that well.

EDIT the careers advisor told me I would probably hit the 80's with my overall raw marks (the ones which get sent to the BOS). He didn't tell me exactly what he thought (he didn't want me to get lazy in studying)

ok, im going to be brutally honest here, and don't take this personally at all, but your careers advisor has no idea.

If you get 80% for each subject, that would be a band 6 in every single subject you do except for english and maybe not IPT.

I am just trying to get you to be realistic here, if your school is ranked 300 and even if "i am in the best cohort so far though" your school won't be any higher than 200 this year. As far as your rank 14/32 in a 300 school, your internal HSC mark might be 80 at a stretch, and hence ceteris paribus you would be looking at around a 60-65% HSC mark if you performed to your rank.

In this case I am just trying to show you that your tests are not as hard as the HSC, and your marks and the words of the careers advisor may be giving you an inflated sense of how you are going to fare in the HSC, trust me it does not work that way.

I understand, the careers advisor is really good (in the sense that he helps people) but has no clue about the ATAR calculation.

I am trying to think realisticly, hence I am asking for guesses.

Are you sayiing I won't hit 80's? because I didn't really take much notice to the careers advisor

No, I am saying you will be in the 80's atar at least :) but I am saying that your raw marks in subjects will not be 80's most probably. If you want to have a look at what i mean, download the attachment from http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=269611

Nah I totally understand that. You need to find out who I really am.

I understand about alligning etc. I just gave my marks because some of the papers are IND etc.

Plus, most of my teachers are HSC markers, so it can give some indication.

(Just because teachers are HSC markers, doesn't mean they are good teachres. I get so many people saying, why isn't your school 1st then if you have so many HSC markers....well firstly, if you know what school I went to, it almost got closed down, because the hall burnt down, however it reopened in 2007, the year I started, hence every cohort before had no good students because they left. Plus some of my teachers are piss lazy and do HSC marking for the $$$ /rantitspowlmaobytheway so please don't tell me off saying that my school is shit, we just have had a few bad cohorts because many students let after the hall burnt down

90 for ranks alone. 90-92 because of your good trial marks in cssa papers and independent papers
