bachelor of science - how easy is it to transfer to usyd? (1 Viewer)

I have accepted my offer from UTS for a bachelor of science but I'd really like to go to USYD for a bachelor of science after one year.. How easy is it to transfer to a different university? Or should I just go to UTS for now and just see how I like the bachelor of science before trying to figure out how I can get into another university?

I answered this in the thread you made in the USyd sub-forum. From UTS to USyd: half your WAM and ATAR will be considered for transfer. All the best ~

Shouldn't be hard, just worry about going well in your first year subjects at UTS for now.

And it is also best to see which units USyd will consider as equivalents ~ hence you'll know which units will be successfully credited and which units you may have to undertake to make up for the UoS/CP that is required.

Thanks for the advice! Passionxmusic what is WAM? Is that just the results I get at uni from the first year of study? I'm still trying to decide if doing academic writing and analytical writing, which are compulsory subjects in the bachelor of liberal arts and science, would be beneficial to me in the future

That is the weight average mark ~ WAM. I agree, ATHK1001 and WRIT1001 seems to be a waste of time but it is beneficial in the long run as it helps boost the WAM - no excuse getting less than a credit average for those two units (make that a distinction because it is not that difficult). But you do have control over the liberal arts units you wish to undertake from second year onwards. Hence the WAM boosting if you pick the right UoS that is.

sorry to bug you again but what is UoS? My sister offered me advice saying that the two subjects would be beneficial if I'm ever interested in doing research projects, writing up dissertations. Would you agree?

Yes. It is beneficial to an extent because both units require writing an essay on your interests in the field of science and arts - you'd get constructive criticism/feedback from your tutors and senior peers. UoS is unit of studies. All in all - BLAS is a very flexible degree and the good thing is - you don't need to do maths (unless your major requires some sort of mathematics prerequisite).

ADD ON: ATHK1001 has very basic statistics - should be fine. WRIT1001 is a bludge - no one attends the lectures and majority of students got distinction for their final grade.

haha well I'd actually prefer maths to english, even though I did better in english than maths in the HSC.

Umm, this is getting all weird with the two threads. Talk about Usyd subjects and stuff in the thread in Usyd section =P

But yeah, if you definitely want to do B Science at Usyd and have an offer for anything in the Science faculty over there it is probably a better option to do that since internal transfers are less hassle and you know you will get credited for your subjects.
