I'm going to study Medicine at UNSW next year and (because I'm moving from interstate) I've decided to stay the year in a college and I was hoping to gain some insights and advice. So basically, I've looked at the websites and some other threads but I'm still anxious to be sure that I've picked the right college. Really what I'm looking for is an environment that is academically convenient (so, not noisy and what not) but still fun. Just to make things a little clearer, I am a quiet person and I am really very serious about my studies but I don't study too much, I like a good drink but I don't mind a dry college, I'm not religious, I dislike sports (and anything to do with them so best that my hypothetical college should have a very relaxed or non-existent sporting culture), I like the world, what I means is that I am not a study freak-I promise, I'm taking a gap year to travel, I like to read and so on, you get the idea. Would anyone recommend that I go (or not go) to a certain college, and any general comments about all the colleges would be welcome. (Oh and I should say that I have ruled out creston-I couldn't bare to have a curfew). Oh, also any anecdotes, purely to act as examples of the characters of various colleges of course-I'm not a gossip ;), would be much appreciated.

I've visited all the UNSW colleges when I went to Open Day, and have friends at a couple.

I'd recommend New or Kensington based on what you've said. Probably New more. Shalom could be okay for you too, if you aren't fussed by the dining rules. And yeah, very good you've ruled out Creston, that place is nutso with strict and weird restrictions.

Haven't they demolished all the colleges next to the quadrangle?

They are restructuring Kensington colleges this year to next (Kenso actually encompasses 'three' colleges-Baxter, Goldstein and Basser) so they have reduced the capacity for this year and may next to allow for the renovations, so at the moment everyone is in the same building.
