So I've recently received my assessment results. I guess I did ok for 4U maths, and other stuff. But what really crushed me was my Chemistry results. I bombed out so hard that I cannot even muster the courage to tell my parents or my friends the marks.

I was just wondering, is it still possible to get a Band 5 for Chemistry despite doing below average so far in the 1st and 2nd assessment blocks?

(Btw. My school is ranked around 6th or near the top 10)

Yeah haha, you can defs still get a B5 - at most top schools, 90%-ish of Chem students will get a B5/B6. So I'm guessing with a cohort of at least 80-90 students, you can defs pick up marks in trials which are worth like 30% at least. If you pick up marks in trials (or any assessments remaining before that), you could easily get an 84-85 internal, and then there's also externals which can equalise your poor internal mark - you can potentially get 88 or even a B6 depending on how you go in school and external marks.

This pretty much. At a top 10 school, only like the bottom few end up with less than a band 5. I would say even with a below average rank, a band 6 is still very much possible.

Thank you so much for restoring my confidence. I guess if I tried harder now and revised more, I could still achieve that Band 5 so my ATAR doesn't get dragged down.

You'll be fine, wow your school is ranked so well.

I crashed my trials and still got a mid band 5 at a rank 200s school in chemistry.

You'd still be in the hunt for a b6 if you wanted.

You'll be fine, especially with that rank!

I went to a school in the 100's and got 30%- 60% in all my exams.

Ended up with a B5 in the very end.

No doubt you'll get one, just keep trying.
