That is true, I'm someone who went through that with Economics, MX1, English, Chem, Bio and Jap. However, when Yr 12 began, I dropped Economics and picked up MX2, hence having 12 rather than 14.
What I'm saying is that why would anyone have 12+ when 2+ units are going to be studied in vain. However, if it's for a course in uni, I guess it's a burden they choose to shoulder for a better shot at the future.

I know of somebody who does 14 units in year 12, stays after school for something else, and finished a hsc course after sitting it in yr 10 and 11.

To start year 12 I was on 14 units but always intended to drop something after gauging the content.
I dropped drama and English Extension 1 as the teacher was incompetent.

When would you recommend dropping from 13 units to 12 or 11 units?

I'm sitting on 13 units atm (either going to drop MX1 or Legal Studies)

After first round of assessments or?

Yeah drop after first round of HSC assessments as that can give you a pretty good indication which subjects are worth keeping.

I kept 13 units until just before trials and ended up dropping extension english because it was too much! I found I could not focus in detail on all my subjects because my energy and focus was so spread. Besides if they only take 10 there really is no point.
