Which businesses should I know?

My school gave us Crumpler and Billabong. Billabong is alright but like Crumpler? Seriously?
Can I just do QANTAS? Are there any study guides out there which I could use to consolidate my knowledge on a Business?

Yes there's a qantas business case study book. $35.

Take a look at the book then you will realise how bad the notes on billabong are in the textbook. PS. Qantas is actually organised by syllabus dot point, so I highly recommend.

The Qantas case study book is definitely the most accessible and comprehensive source of information you can get for case studies by a large margin.

I guess it depends on how safe you want to play it. I personally had a major case study of Qantas and just made notes on other case studies I researched since I wanted to use the best case study for the question (i.e. for marketing ethics I think I ended up using 4 different businesses in my response). In saying that, a guy that state ranked Business Studies in 2012 solely used Qantas and found that suffice.

If worst comes to worst there's also a possibility to make a hypothetical business if you choose the latter option and your information doesn't fit the question.

For marketing and operations some other businesses you can research include McDonalds, Apple Inc. and LÓreal

Quantas is the best for HR (the 2012 strikes and recent job cuts) , apple is decent for operations (talk about outsourcing) , billabong is awesome for finance (Talk about the financing deals to pay off its debts) and the Go PRO is awesome for marketing (so is red bull).

We all know about the red bull of marketing :) (promotion in big events + in sports).

Billabong and Crumpler aren't that great. I used Qantas for HR and Apple for Operations / Marketing (ignored finance case studies)

Going into the exam I had Qantas/Asos/Apple and a bunch of other examples but I ended up mainly using Apple and a tiny bit of Asos. My Apple case study info was solely based on research from a bunch of random webpages + my own knowledge. I just copied the Qantas book and made my own notes based off syllabus dot points and it worked out pretty well. It really isn't that hard, I had no notes 1 week before the exam, yet stilled managed to get a 91 despite getting 14/20 for the multiple choice.

Iirc, Qantas is a popular choice for human resources and Toyota for Operations (primarily quality control).
However, just saying, I made up my primary case study during the 2012 HSC (although I did plan it out beforehand, and think of hypothetical scenarios). I achieved an external mark of 96, despite getting 16/20 in multiple choice ... so I guess unless I just got really lucky, it worked out.

Google, CCA, Qantas, Apple, (Confound Company LTD (Backup))

were the only case studies I used. Google would've been the one I knew most about in terms of accuracy of information though

Literally billions of case studies out there. Don't limit yourself to 1-2 case studies, a hsc marker is always looking for an abundant amount of case studies to back up each argument of your extended response. Look them up, i'd say qantas, apple and microsoft are pretty big ones; read the news, you'd be surprised how many case studies you can incorporate. (Holden)
