I'm thinking of doing actuarial studies and probably majoring in commerce or applied finance. What is the difference between them both. Which one is better to do.
Also I was thinking about becoming an investment banking at well. If so which one should I choose?

For Applied Finance you're talking about macq uni right?

If you want to get into IB directly i wouldn't recommend any uni apart from UNSW/USYD (or other GO8 unis interstate). Although you do hear stories of people breaking into IB with a degree from MACQ/UTS, it isn't exactly the easiest method to do so.

MACQ has a great actuarial program but i still think the Go8 bias would apply, i'm happy to be proven wrong.

Your choice between those won't have as much of an impact on your chances of getting into IB (Bulge Bracket in particular) compared to your marks. Also ideally, if you want to go to UTS/MQ, you should be around the top of your cohort to have a solid chance.
This is roughly true even if you're in usyd/unsw (You most probably won't get directly into 'the' Goldman Sachs with a distinction average in comm)

But at this stage - just do the subject you like most (more likely that you'll do good in it) and then think about where you want to go.
