- when's the best time to start studying for prelims
- how do you study and what past papers do you reccomend
- how often do you study a subject ( one hr a week etc..)
Thanks heaps for your input guys!

- when's the best time to start studying for prelims : NOW, the earlier you start the better off you will be as you will have more time to absorb knowledge. I really recommend you start as early as possible with subjects like maths as they are not to difficult to self teach and the beginning of year 11 is usually just repeating harder year 10 topics.

- how do you study and what past papers do you reccomend : study whenever you can, and make sure you don't leave tasks to the last minute, year 11 is the last chance to play around with study techniques
before the HSC, make sure you stick to a timetable or daily schedule. Also don't be too hard on yourself, don't forget about social activities, hobbies, etc. For past papers i suggest you find some on this forum or do simple google searches for past papers, trust me there are a lot out there.
- how often do you study a subject ( one hr a week etc..) : i try to focus on my weakest subject the most, i usually do about an hour daily of my weakest subject everyday and skim over or write some extra notes for my other subs. As exams approach, i increase study time.

Hope this helps, all the best.

Probably study 3 weeks prior to the end of the long break - this is the only time you can have an actual break without having the guilt of not studying.
Revise a concepts; for me its just repeating the concept over and over then immediately practicing the concept with past paper questions. Then spam past papers prior to an exam.
I study 4 hours a day, not including homework and assignments but thats only because I've been able to fully balance a social life, hobbies and my studies. I suggest developing your goals and mess around with the hours of your social life, hobbies and studies BUT DONT EVER PROCRASTINATE.

Don't be too keen to start studying for preliminaries - relax. While it is important, you have to remember that it lasts for 3 terms and HSC lasts for 4; do you really think you can force yourself to study EFFICIENTLY for 7 terms?

Studying for exams really is a continuous process, and the number of hours you put in is less important than the efficiency of your studying. The number of hours you put into a subject should be proportional to your strength in that subject, so for subjects you are really strong at, you spent less time studying for these subjects compared to subjects you are weaker at. Your question is also very broad as it is highly dependent on personal preferences as well as the particular subjects the person does.

There probably is no 'best' time as long as you start >2 weeks before the exams.

I don't study until exams come up so like 2-3weeks before? Writing notes is a good idea but I lazily tend to try to do them in large chunks (for prelim anyway). Most past papers are sufficient for prelim study.
