So if it's a 60% what mark does it align to? Also, when you got 72 and it aligned to 87, what were the factors affecting this?

60% would align to a 87, 72% aligns to a 92.

For those who want to pick up extension 1 Maths(3u maths) in year 12 (even though they didn't do it in year 11) or accelerate in extension 1 Maths outside of school, you can come to Granville TAFE and do it!
There's another enrollment session on 28 Jan 2015, 10AM or 5PM!

I want to make sure that everyone realises that you must get permission from your school principal to study externally a course that is already offered at your school. (That is, if you want it to count towards your HSC)

Just an update, my maths teacher (who was meant to teach 2 Unit, 3 Unit and 4 Unit maths at Granville TAFE) said that the government wanted to save money, resulting in budget cuts to TAFEs and many redundancies last year because they wanted less teachers to teach more students in each class.

We were told that 3 Unit maths will most likely not be running since there aren't enough students wanting to study it, they need 25 students. My maths teacher even told those who wanted to study 3 Unit maths to not even bother going to tomorrow's class.

4 Unit maths has a question mark next to it, there are many students who want to study 4 Unit maths who are from high school but they need 25 students, the government isn't going to pay them to run a class of say, 10 students.

I apologise if this is bad news to anyone but as I said earlier, the government wants to save money. In the past, they were able to run 3 Unit or 4 Unit maths even if there were 5 students but they can't do it anymore.

This is not true. I know a school kid who got a call from Granville saying that they will run 3unit and 4unit next week.

LATEST UPDATE.

Granville TAFE is running 3 unit Maths on Thursday night from 5-8pm and 4unit Maths on Wednesday night from 5-8pm both at room c318.
Bankstown TAFE only runs 2 unit Maths night class on Wednesday night from 5.30-9.30pm. (so if you want to accelerate in 2u outside of school, you can do it at Bankstown TAFE).
Randwick TAFE runs 3u and 4u on Wednesday night 5.30-8.30pm.
North Sydney TAFE runs 3u and 2u night classes only, they don't have enough people for 4u.

Liverpool tafe also has 3u and 4u.

Math via distance is very hard.

No idea how it is through TAFE.

Does TAFE do like quick courses? Say doing the 3u course (only) in a few months? Or would I be better off just grabbing a textbook and self learning?

TAFE does year 11 and 12 in ONE year.
You can do 3U through TAFE or distance ed if your school doesn't offer it, timetable clash in your school or your school doesn't let you do 3u.

My friend needs to get in extension 1 mathematics and he was forced to drop out of accelerated mathematics (2 unit) at his school mainly because he was underperforming

For me don't worry about the science subject, I already got in physics and chemistry and people are dropping out of bio because the course is boring but my friend needs to know some info about mathematics

Your friend can do ext 1 maths at Granville tafe and accelerated 2u maths at Bankstown tafe.

Wow, I haven't been here for ages. Recently I have received a few enquiries from some students. So if you encounter the following problems:
1. Your school does not offer Extension Maths due to not enough people wanting to do it etc.
2. You have issues with a timetable clash at school
3. Your school wouldn't let you do Extension 1 or 2 Maths due to low marks in your Prelim course or Year 10
4. You want to accelerate in Maths and accelerating is not an option in your school

Here is the most recent update:
1. Do it through correspondence via Sydney Distance Education High School (SDEHS)

Do note that you need your principal's approval to enrol and you NEED TO ENROL in September, or latest (November)?. But it's best to enrol around September. Check the enrolment dates on the Sydney Distance Education High School website because they do not accept late enrolment.
eg. if you're in year 12 in 2020, then it's best to send in the application form around September 2019 ( the year you're in year 11).
[Please note that their assessment schedule is also the same like school: their first assessment task is in term 4 as well, so it's best to enrol early, esp. if you are 100% sure that your school doesn't offer 4u maths/ teachers definitely won't let you do 4u in school].

If you send in the application form late to SDEHS (at the start of Term 1 Year 12), then it's highly unlikely that they'll take you. So do send in your application form as early as possible to avoid disappointment.


2. Doing it through TAFE
TAFE's do offer 3u and 4u maths. They usually start their classes at the start of February. So even if you miss term 4 of year 12, you won't be disadvantaged. (For TAFE Digital, because it's distance and you can enrol at any time, so it's best to check with them when is the assessment schedule).

Recently, there have been more cuts to TAFE and at the moment, if you want to accelerate 2U Maths, or do MX1 and MX2 at TAFE, your only option is to do it via distance learning at TAFE Digital. At the moment, there is no more face to face TAFE that offers any HSC courses, except for TAFE Digital.

3. Doing it through an outside tutor
