I think they expect you to use the change of base formula and log laws rather than quote the formula .

it's essentially the changeof base law and multiplying both top and bottom by 'n'

Change of base was what I used the first time I did that anyway. I was just asking to confirm.

Basically this, +1. I've never seen it listed as a result you need to know, in any textbook. Using that result would probably be regarded as a fudge / skipping a line or two of working.
