Re: HSC 2016 3U Marathon

As if any of the 2016ers have done binomial theorem yet LOL
At my school we do binomial first term... that's so the extension 2 teacher isn't restricted in complex numbers.

Our first topic was binomial :/

Something's weird with your teacher..................

Using DeMoivre + BnmTh to find double etc angle identities was something our teacher taught us way later. 4U polynomials was our 5th topic.

my teacher just assumed everyone had an inkling of what the binomial theorem was... because most people at my school are tutored.

Lol. In my MX2 class, 0 out of all 3 students had a tutor for maths.

Since a lot of the 3u topics required 2u knowledge, my teacher taught us all the 3u topics that were independent (induction, binomial, newtons method) while going through like probability and integration in 2u
Now we can do extensions of those topics next term in 3u
Not that any of that applies to me since i just self-taught most of it already

That's only an issue if a 3U teacher is teaching things like say before or after school or even in the timetable, but all of the 2U students doing 3U are scattered amongst the 2U classes. Our class made 3U independent so the teacher could work at his own pace and thus mix around with 2U/3U topics. This allowed for things such as applications of calculus to be taught in essentially a sequence Grove set out.

Induction, however, isn't really independent. It's under series.

In theory, induction comes under series. Practical, you can do induction without knowledge on series. I've only seen on or two questions where you've had to write an expression for a series and then proved my MI

And then you get thrown off by just a little sigma. But for the most part true.
_______________

Hint on the induction: That one's hard, try to not move everything to the LHS or RHS (your choice) by SUBTRACTION... (or proving the inequality as it stands)

Soccerball, i'm pretty sure it's meant to be 12 x 5 in front of the n choose 6th term
Can someone confirm before i upload answer?
Judging by the last term and the pattern that gets established, yes.
