I'm going to refrain from playing quick games since I don't feel any improvement from moving as a result of impulse and minimal computation

Yep. Quick games are purely to test speed and usually result in catastrophe unless you're already pretty amazing.

I realised that on one of the moves I virtually trapped my knight...I had one safe square but it was a bad safe square so I didn't even go there

I think that's underselling blitz players to say that quick games are purely to test speed lol, there is still massive depth in tactics and strategy. But yes, you would most likely get bad habits and look at positions more superficially if you tried to learn the game only through playing blitz.

Anyone for an ongoing tournament/league? This thread hasn't been active for a while, but I could manage an ongoing tournament that requires you to play your paired opponent at whatever time suits you during the week.

Am thinking a double elimination bracket for the sake of there being a grand finals rather than an anticlimactic points race via round robin. A match would then consist of two* 15min clock matches (so you play both colours in each match). Ties are broken by 2 5min matches, again swapping colours. This tiebreak process is continued until a winner is reached.

(* this number will be 4 for later rounds in the tournament depending on number of entrants, and maybe 6 for grands.)

I can host this bracket on challonge.com. To enter will require you to have an identifiable lichess account.

Register interest here, and if we have enough entrants I will make the bracket asap! :)
