Why won't selective schools+top private schools have more subject accelerations (2 Viewers)

Believe it or not but my school has accelerated EES and IPT...The only useful thing about acclerated EES is that it give you a rough idea on hsc sciences and improves scientific skills. This is in yr 9-10 so all the time in the world to study.

For a rank 300-400 school??? TF is EES? Introduce accelerated chemistry and maths for a rank 300-400 school, hopefully it'll boost its way up to a top 200 ranking lol

I think they don't want to attract too much attention to accelerating subjects- there is an argument that by bringing forward subjects, it gives students more capacity in year 12 and hence a bit too much of a favorable position compared to other students. I'm pretty sure if I did 5 or 6 units a year earlier, then I would have done better in my HSC. Whilst the students who do accelerate obviously are already ahead of the curve and hence expected to do well, I think giving too much focus on it would open up a can of worms to debate whether this is fair.

Also another interesting thing is that selective schools such as Fort Street, Sydney Boys/Girls, Penrith and Girraween have accelerated subjects such as accelerated maths and accelerated chemistry but why not introduce it into schools such as James Ruse and Baulko who are "more gifted"

I was told from a friend that the reason why Sydney Tech doesn't have accelerated mathematics is because their maths faulty doesn't want their kids to burn out on excessive maths but isn't it only for one year?

Interestingly, I was told Canley Vale high was planning to get rid of its accelerated maths program and that this year or last year was the last year it was going to be implemented

Unfortunately very few schools seriously push kids into olympiad.

For a top tier maths school like Baulko (I'm pree sure Baulko is strong in maths) it would be a waste of an opportunity not to do it. Although there might be timetable clashes and such, I'd be a waste of a student's chance to accelerate

I think in this case Baulko doesn't want maths acceleration b/c they're afraid of the bad students dragging down the whole cohort

Our school does accel. 2U maths only for a "streamed class" whose path to 4U math is predetermined by the start of yr 10. So Basically we did the entirety of yr 10 work in half a year, did all of 2U maths through year 10/11, did HSC 2U last year and as of today actually we are all done and dusted on 4U and 3U. Obviously 2U doesn't count now - but nonetheless not everyone chooses to continue with 4U.

For our cohort of 26 it was really successful - 2 got 99 4 (myself included) got 98 and our weaker 2 got high band 5's. Even then our accelerated class was leaps and bounds ahead of any year 12 2U students as far as averages are concerned our class average was ~ 95. Anyways, this program has been at the school for the better part of 5-6 years and its the best thing I have ever done at school and think It has been one of the most beneficial things for my education thus far - even if the 2U doesn't for me.

Otherwise I think some courses are fine to be accelerated further and it's a program i feel that is advantageous to anyone who does it, the workload is hard but such is life - just workaround it.

Who is it now? I actually really enjoyed my social science teachers back in Baulko - and it led me to a career path in Commerce/humanities

Just wondering but are there any schools out there which have at least 2 acceleration classes?

My school (rank 50-100, used to be way higher - I'm talking top 10) has acceleration for 2U maths and Biology in year 11.

My school usually does work a year ahead so from year 7 we would do year 8, year 8=9, 9=10, 10=11 (2U past papers and stuff) etc...

Edit: Year 9-11 have accelerated maths classes on Saturdays.
