I thought it'd be a great idea to make a HSC chem thread since there's a prelim chem thread. Same principle to the prelim chem thread (used for help and testing others)

I'll start off:

1. Decane (C10H22) can undergo catalytic cracking to form ethylene and octane. Write a balanced chemical equation for this process and identify the catalyst used
2. Ethane can undergo cracking to form ethylene and hydrogen gas. Write a balanced chemical equation for this process
3. Ethylene is a very versatile raw material used in the petrolchemical industry
a. Identify the major chemical process used to obtain ethylene
b. Other than obtaining ethylene, outline one other reason for why the chemical process named in part A) is carried out. Include a relevant balanced chemical equation in your answer

Thanks Shuuya :D
No worries :)

Just a note ---> in the last equation glucose should be aqueous not solid, oops

Also the states for cracking should be (g)

Upon the advice of another moderator, because of the likely similarity of this thread to HSC chemistry marathon 2016 thread, I would like to direct everyone to either post on that thread or make specific threads on HSC questions encountered. The formation of a preliminary chemistry thread supplemented a forum which has mainly HSC chemistry questions, however the creation of a sole thread on HSC chemistry may be at risk of defeating the purpose of having a forum for the asking and answering of HSC chemistry related questions in general.

If this is not followed, I will be closing this thread promptly. I appreciate your understanding in this matter. By no means am I discouraging people to answer questions-it is great and keep it up, it is just that we don't want to reduce the utility of forums by condensing contents into mega threads where relevant content then becomes much harder to find unnecessarily.
