Curious about internal transfers (1 Viewer)

So I know for a fact that if you didnt get into a desired course first time around due to not having a high enough ATAR, you do another course and use your WAM at the end of the semester to transfer in your desired course however you'll be 6 months behind your peers, will this affect you much? I mean isnt there heaps of work to catch up on and such?

Uni is not like school. Just because a degree says it's 3 years long, doesn't mean you need to complete it in 3 years. Some students take 3.5 years, 4 years, even longer. Some students might transfer a couple of times before finding a degree that's right for them. There is no "behind your peers", and there is nothing to "catch up on". You do courses to satisfy to the requirements of your degree - you take those courses at your own pace. If you transfer after 1 semester, that doesn't mean you have 1 semester less to complete your degree. You will simply finish 1 semester after the typical single degree starting cohort, which really doesn't mean anything. You don't need to finish your degree with the people you started uni with - students who do double degrees can have various starting cohorts finish with them.

All the basic courses run every semester pretty much, but specialist courses may run specific semesters


For instance, Math 1A is every semester, but Math 1B is only second semester (or Summer)

Ok say I wanted to Maths and Arts at the same time however I didnt meet that requirement, I would have to do a science degree of some sort for the time being (6 months) and then use my WAM to do an internal transfer. So if I wanted to do maths at UNSW and did an internal transfer would I end up doing maths 1B or 1A because doesn't 1B rely on the foundation of 1A? Like what would I do if I wanted to do maths 1A but had to do an internal transfer?

A course is a subject (except it's called a course). Some are offered in only 1 semester, some are offered in both, and a few in the summer term. You complete courses to meet the requirements of your degree.

You need to do all courses that satisfy the requirements of the degree. If you haven't done Math 1A, you cannot do Math 1B because Math 1B requires you to have completed Math 1A.
