Also, has anyone done the brain bee challenge? If so, how difficult is the first round? Are there any sample questions I can get?

it's all in the book and the first round is not too difficult if you are thorough on the book, especially with the common concepts and it's better you understand the key points rather than memorise. Memorising will be needed for the second round.
