The difference in the RAW mark cutoff for band 6 is due to the option topics. One may be difficult than the other and thus they align differently
But look here the weighted mark which takes into account the option is the same as the raw mark.

Wow true that is weird. My guess is that its probably that 78 was the cutoff and 83 was the same percentile as 78. However it seems a bit skeptical because there's no way a 5 mark difference would be the same percentile

What does everyone think the band 6 cutoff is gonna be

so does the force direction change or not?

Yes it does this graph may look familiar and represents the force on one side of the coil
Regarding the b6 cut off:
yeah i find it weird how 78 would go to 90 when ext 2 maths has similar aligning some years.
Further im not sure how low itll be this year although the general consensus is the test was extremely easy i find it hard to believe that the cutoff will be 85+ this year like people were saying

cut off is probably gonna be 87 cause it was the easiest physics paper in the hsc

Isn't the pointer in Q18(or 19?) going down because the repulsive force by the coils is lessening gravitational force, so less apparent weight is measured?

You are right about it decreasing gravitational force but remember that when the gravitational force is lessened it means the pointer is not being pulled down as much so the pointer will actually move up

I highly doubt it. Were only like a few people out of the thousands that take it. I'm predicting cutoff to be 83ish. Its never gone above that and even though we found it easy, statewide it was just like any other physics paper when 83 aligns to B6

Why would it move up? Less force is measured, and it's a spring balance.

The reading on the balance would decrease yes but theres no way that the pointer would move down? The spring is being pulled down LESS so it moves up.

Isn't the pointer showing the magnitude of the force exerted on the spring? So, since less force is exerted, it goes down to a lower value.

I think what he's saying is the pointer moves up with more force, so when there's less force it will naturally go back down.

What would a raw mark of 87-90 align to?

In general, the top of the state gets 93/94 raw. There is no way that 10% of the phys cohort will get more than 86
