I've got trials in like a week and I'm gonna start memorising quotes for my essays, if I want to be able to adapt my analysis to different questions, what kind of quotes do I need to look for? And, do I need a lot of different small quotes or a few big ones where I can just change the analysis to whatever I need?

Also how many quotes per paragraph do ppl who get good marks do?

My texts are Merchant of Venice, Hughes+Plath and Emma (I really doubt that there are many ppl who do these texts so I'm looking for general advice mostly)

Hey, my teacher said that you need a minimum of 2 quotes in each paragraph. I'm also doing Merchant of Venice and i also memorised quotes, you would look at the main ideas within the play, so i did how individual experience of portia and shylock is dictated by the collective, the inconsistencies and paradoxes in the collective human behaviour, and the idea of agency which Portia used to manipulate others. After finding 3 themes/ideas, you would have to find quotes which can be used for these ideas and back it up. So an example for the individual would be Shylocks 'Hath not a Jew' speech and for the collective you can talk about Portia's 'Quality of Mercy' speech, but you could use other quotes if you want to.

Thx that sounds good and the 2 quotes per paragraph is pretty reasonable when you account for analysis, topic sentence, link + the quote itself. I'll prob memorise like 10 just in case a few don't fit the question bcuz some ppl say do 8 per paragraph but for 3 essays that seems like too much to remember + analyse for trials.

But how do you write so much tho, I tried 8 per paragraph (3 bodies) and I was writing the entire 40 minutes and got a trash mark anyway because I had no time for a good intro or good links

For my trials, I had memorised a total of 16 quotes which had 3 body paragraphs. Honestly, it only took me around 3 hours to memories the quotes with a detailed explanation of the quote.

i didnt use them all for 1 essay the hell
i memorise 10 for each THEME and then draw upon like 2-4 for my paragraphs and expand on them to suit the question

8 per paragraph is way too much for in depth analysis. Most of the time 3 or 4 is fine and enough for you to analyse them thoroughly. And yeah as people have said memorise the important quotes by theme or main message etc
