Yes there is

SylviaB has not ventured into any School forums and has been disciplined and banned multiple times. Quite frankly, I think the current system is proportionate (i.e a handful of inflammatory comments) because this site has seen far worse.
Remove the points you gave me, as it was not spamming as I only posted once in the sdd forum, it was relevant to the sdd forum as we sdd students have a major work coming soon. Offended mod

Fine. I will give you the benefit of the doubt. But surely you can do better than this
Yeah I said it will suck as my sdd teacher have not taught us programming skills much in year 12, now we have to fucking teach ourself at home just to get a good mark for the project

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to point out. I am aware mods take an unbiased approach with respect to the subject matter. I was trying to point out the way in which arguments are being delivered, not the argument/opinion itself.

There's a clear difference between one respectfully stating their opinion and backing it up with evidence where applicable, and one resorting to unnecessary calls and insults including "idiot, moron, dumb dumb, fucking retarded" etc. I don't think banning/issuing warnings to the latter displays any sort of bias.
Agree, but there is a small tolerance of this in Non-School (less so in School forums) and it’s more of a “watch and see” approach. Also, personal insults sometimes happen on both sides of the argument as well. I am not going to ban every instance someone says “idiot” or “dickhead” otherwise I would also be banning some of you guys who also throw unnecessary insults when you argue back. Context needs to be considered as well.

I understand the tolerance levels maybe be different, particularly in non-school forums. But would it really still be a valid debate/argument when insults are being thrown back and forth? I feel like it automatically loses it's authenticity and purpose.
If people on both sides of the argument start insulting each other, that only shows their inability to enter into a civil discussion. SylviaB's actions are causing reactions from other BoS members (that of course doesn't justify the reactions, they are still wrong), but perhaps the initiation of such calls/insults is what causes chaos within those threads in the first place. It is also worth saying that SylviaB is the only user I've seen who actually starts insulting. Everyone else makes genuine contributions to the conversation until the first insult.

Also, I know you're probably not referring to me, but I just wanted to say that I've never actually insulted/disrespected anyone on this website, quite the opposite. :)

can agree with this, as I see sylvia b is the most hated person on this site and has been for years, but I do think freedom of speech should be allowed,

What usually happens is that it is a brief off the cuff insult followed by actual debate content. If there are still valid points and people are seeing the argument behind the noise of insults to debate back then that’s fine. It’s not always a case of people trading only insults at each other.

I do not agree that SylviaB is the only user that starts the insult. Look at the start of this thread and the chess thread for example...

Either way, from a practical perspective you cannot seriously expect mods to be there 24/7 and pick up the initial insult before someone else argues back.

The start of this thread is of course unacceptable. You're an administrator doing your job and you shouldn't be addressed in such a way. But its occurrence is extremely rare compared to SylviaB's (now seemingly normalised) insults. A number of users are complaining about this, not just myself.

Main insults in the Chess thread that I spotted were posts #24, #39 and #40, the first one being by SylviaB, the second one by nilatar and the third one being a response to nilatar from SylviaB. All 3 are unnecessary and could've been avoided.

If there's an insult that came before those, please indicate it to me, although I don't think I missed any.

The BoS mod team is quite small when compared to other study forums, but that's a different topic. And yes, I have no unrealistic expecations such as these. I'm merely sharing my opinion and suggestions for a study forum that I highly appreciate. :)

See post #13 which starts the personal attack in a somewhat “soft” way - but was followed by a subsequent post I had to delete from that user because that was more direct and no longer about the subject matter.

Whilst I agree that they are not as common, my point still stands that there is some tolerance allowed in non-school where there is less of a hardline approach. SylviaB hasn’t exactly inundated the forum with attacks, it’s the occasional threads here and there. Therefore, the warnings and bans are proportionate to that.
