Hi guys,
Let us say a person somehow gets a hundred per cent in a subject in their school. If the school was to be high performing would they get 100/100 for the subject in their atar?

school assessments are only 50% of the atar with the hsc exams being the other 50%
so in order to get 100% youd also need to get a 100 in the final hsc exam for that subject
and it doesnt matter if you go to a high/low-performing school for this scenario to happen. If you get a 100 in the final hsc exam + a 100 in the school assessments, your final hsc mark remains a 100

I believe getting achieving 100 in a particular subject depends a lot on the student themselves. First, you will need to ensure you rank first in your cohort for a particular subject (assuming only one person will achieve a final mark of 100), so that your Assessment Mark can be adjusted to equal your own Examination Mark via the moderation process. Adjusting your Assessment Mark to equal your Examination Mark means that in addition to the need to rank first in your cohort, you will need to achieve 100 in the HSC exam for that subject, meaning your Examination Mark, which constitutes 50% of your final mark will be 100, subsequently making your Assessment Mark (which also constitutes 50% of your final mark) 100, because of your rank and mark in the HSC exam, meaning your final mark for that subject will end up being 100 as a result.

I hope this helps! :D

im pretty sure your actual internal mark doesnt matter, so say if you are 1st internally with a mark of 70% (this could be because exams maybe very difficult), but then in hsc you get a 100, your overal mark will be 100, as since your rank 1 you get the highest mark (100).

Wait so, if rank 1 was to get zero in the hsc paper, would they still be moderated to get the highest mark?

Their Assessment Mark will still be adjusted to equal the highest Examination Mark, but their own Examination Mark will be recorded as 0, which will obviously cause a significant detriment to their final mark. The Examination Mark (i.e. the mark you receive for your HSC exam in a particular subject) is determined solely based on your own performance and is unaffected by your cohort or school rank.
