Do the majority of people use u substitutes all the time to save writing out working? Do you use them on simple questions or only on longer ones? Just wondering.

for ext 1 they always give u the substitution so u don't have to worry about when u should be using it
Oh right, fair enough. So ext1 exam markers expect it all the time and in advanced it's personal preference?

i see people doing u sub for something as basic as x/sqrt(1-x^2) or like 1/sqrt(a^2-x^2) which is too much imo. I only use u sub if its a tricky integral to simplify further but like if its a standard i usually ignore it.

the annoying thing is when they tell u to use substitution when u can just do it in one step using reverse chain rule
(ik they r basically the same thing but if u can just see the answer theres no point taking the long way)

Ikr, like why are they so opposed to basic reverse chain rule
