I plan to tell my tutor that I am dropping 4U maths.

I really wanted to keep 4U and i think a major part of that reason is because I haven’t taken the time to actually commit myself to study for 4U and to the H/W and stuff so it’s a sense of guilt in a way and like what if I do study and be up to date, I might be good. We’re now onto proof and I barely remember anything from complies numbers.

I plan to tell him I’m dropping 4U tomorrow when I have him for my 3U class. I just want to see what you guys based on my reasons.

Reasons for dropping 4U:
- I’m doing Eng Adv, 3U maths (at school rn from prev posts I’m still in yr 11), physics, chem, art, eco (dropping next year). I personally want to keep physics and chem as a safeguard for when i go to uni and i personally like those subjects. I’m really passionate when it comes to art so if I do pick 4U at school that’ll mean i’ll most likely drop art which I desperately do not want to do.
- I feel like i’m more science focused/ better in as compared to maths. From what my tutor says, I have to not only like maths a lot but I would have to be exceptionally talented in it, aka, maths is my best subject but personally i find my other subjects better.
- I would score higher in 3U + 2U than 4U and 3U and i feel 4U will do more harm than good.
- Personally math annoys me sometimes and I find 3U a suitable pace for me.

From reading this and my pasts forums, is dropping 4U the best option for me (career and education wise) granted i didn’t put as much effort as i should or keep going until i catch up and see. (It’s already been two tutor terms in 4U and I only kept it for so long due to guilt of not studying, should i might as well drop it?)

What's the reasons behind you not taking the time to commit yourself to studying for 4u + completing h/w and all that? From the reasons you provided, it seems like you only want to do 10 units in year 12 and not have 12 units for example (if you did 4u and art)?

You're still in year 11 and so you wouldn't actually start 4u content in school until term 4 (I assume?) + I don't really see it as an issue that you 'barely remember anything from complex numbers'. What is stopping you from studying and being up to date in tutoring? How would you know if you were good at it, or had the aptitude for it, if you never even tried?

Now obviously I'm not going to tell you to keep it or drop it, but I would actually give it a try before you think about dropping it. Don't make any rash decisions

I think it comes down to me not finding time to study for it. I have 3U, chem, physics, religious things for 2 days, so it’s a lot to manage and as 4U at school hasnt started, i don’t prioritise it as much as i should and it’s a lot of work.

Yeah that's fair enough then.

It might be worth stopping tutoring given you've done complex and a bit of proofs, and start 4u at school and see how it goes? given you'll probably do complex first

I find my school isn't that good in maths and my tutor Is really good so I definitely would do tutoring if I keep 4u

Your school should factor that much into it… I know students in an early 400s late 300s ranked school that got b6 and a 99.85 in their school. Given you're currently doing 4u at yr 11, I don’t see why You should drop it, given you’ve got the talent to do the course earlier than most 4uers

I feel like this person goes to ngo specialist given that they’ve already covered those topics
