yr12 engineering studies student here, do not pick unless you are confident with rote learning half a textbook.

Nah but on a serious note, engineering is pretty content heavy but a lot is intuition, perhaps compared to business its a bit better. (but i don't do so don't quote me on that)

Physics and engineering have limited relevance, except for like friction, torque, forces and those, but all these are pretty basic in the physics course so you're definitely capable without it. Everything else is just content, memorising stuff. Don't just think theres all calculations in engineering, yes there is, but there are also quite a lot of long responses about materials, applications, historical stuff, etc. Oh, and theres also drawings in engineering (which I hate but thats not important).

You should consider the subject that you may be more interested in and/or are likely to perform better in. If you took Stage 5 Commerce, your performance can potentially serve as an indication of your ability to commit and perform well in Business Studies.

howcanibesmarter's post provides you with an understanding of Engineering Studies and Physics content. In terms of Business Studies, it can also be considered as one of the more content-heavy subjects. Business Studies also involves more writing than Engineering Studies (although there is minimal need to draw diagrams in Business Studies compared to Engineering Studies). When comparing a Business Studies HSC exam to an Engineering Studies HSC exam, you will find that Engineering Studies places more emphasis on short-answer questions, whereas Business Studies, in addition to including short-answer questions, requires two long responses, one report (Section III) and one essay/extended response (Section IV).

Additionally, you should consider your study interests beyond the HSC. While neither Business Studies nor Engineering Studies are required to study a relevant degree at university, both subjects contribute knowledge that can, to an extent, facilitate the beginning of your university studies. Based on this, you may wish to consider taking Business Studies if you are interested in studying a Bachelor of Business/Commerce, or a related degree. On the other hand, you may wish to consider taking Engineering Studies if you are interested in studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or a related degree.

I hope this helps! 😄

I agree, I did it for year 11 and then a term of year 12 and there is a lot of really specific stuff you need to remember about various materials and all their properties, honestly the calculations side isn't too bad but yeah prepare yourself for lots of random memorisation of like the structure of iron and stuff if you pick it : D
But like I would still pick it over business cause I don't have enough interest in that stuff 😊
