I'm talking specifically about engo. I know people with 99+ atars and some school duxes struggling with engineering + there's a high dropout rate, so it's not as easy as Interdice makes it look like.
Engo is difficult. But there are harder degrees. Difficulty between different fields is a consideration though. Computer Science and Software Engineering are probably among the easier ones. Aerospace Engineering is probably fucking difficult. But Law, Med and Actuary are harder

Most people fail engineering, ngl if you got a 60 atar you really don't stand a chance (unless you try) but if you tried why would you get a 60 atar and how're you possibly going to survive further ext 2 math??
Bro you aint getting anywhere in engineering with 70 atar let alone a 60

Enjoy the feeling while it lasts for getting your ATAR. Honestly the feeling died after 1 hr after result, just went back to playing games and chilling. Trust its not that deep, but just waiting for the moment is the most joy/fear you'll experience in your high school years.
idk man depends on the ATAR you get

if u really wanna work hard and succeed in engineering its possible , despite what a four number indicator says.

i get wym tho, that if u do have a lower atar then u might be less motivated to succeed in general, so u might struggle in engineering.

I'm not saying they stand a chance. I'm saying that they can do it. You can't EVER do med with a 60 atar. Or if you can, you're set back 10 years. But you can do Engineering with a 60 atar.

My former friend want to Engineering at WSU and he's so fucked if he gets in. He's getting a band 4 in standard math and he's going to get all band 3s except for math maybe english. He's so fucked and gonna fail. I don't have his contact info but I want to hear how badly XD
What makes you say you’re set back 10 years( exaggerated I’m assuming) for med if you get a 60 atar? Surely it’s a matter of resitting HSC exams/an alternate pathway to gain a spot in uni and try further to get into med later on which is really only a couple years extra. Perhaps I’m giving the benefit of doubt to this hypothetical person since in my mind if someone is truly intent on pursuing a certain career, there will be a way for them to achieve this.

Save the copium for Thursday. We all know usyd is way better for every degree except maybe unsw for elec engineering. We’re dreaming if we think uni doesn’t matter for employment.
lol what 😭 unsw and usyd are both great unis , i dont think u would see a huge difference between the two (academically speaking).

also, for many careers as long as u get a degree with accreditations and all that u will be fine, regardless of uni. there r definetly some careers/degrees where uni does matter, specifically law and finance, but aside from that no employer will rlly care, moreso grades, and potentially work experience if u can get an internship.

Imagine resetting atar cause yoy get 60 atat lmao. Like no one would.

Youd have to wait until ur mature age. Then gwt bachelor of medical studies. The transfer to med. Like 5 years lost

Lol indeed. Ask around - when would WSU get hired over usyd ? Or UNSW law v usyd law - too funny
off the top of my head here are some degrees/careers where employers could really care less about ur uni, so wsu and usyd comparison is irrelevant:
- nursing
- medicine (at least if u become a general doctor in a hospital)
- many it roles (though gpa and work experience would be held much higher than uni in this field)
- construction management
- many engineering jobs
- psychology
- education
- many accounting jobs (again, gpa and workexperience)

im sure theres many more, but for some reason theres a mindset in sydney that the uni u attend will make or break ur career. while i will agree this has some merit, id say if u attend uts, usyd, unsw, or macquarie uni, for many degrees its really just not that big of a deal. if someone has a d-hd average at uts, a good internship and a good attitude, i cant see why an employer would arbitrarily discard them as an applicant just bc they attended uts...

Usyd law go straight to a city law firm, $150k. UNSW law get ona grad program for 80k max.
Macquarie uni law - suburban solicitor
How much does uni prestige matter really I’m curious never rlly heard much abt it

My comments are about getting the first job out of uni tbf. The big paying grad roles def favour usyd in just about all disciplines. Fair point re nursing etc

not sayin they will discard uts macq but vs usyd - which usually has a higher atar and rightly or wrongly is perceived as better.
i agree with u on law and finance, that there is certainly a factor of "prestige" that companies will consider. that being said in many industries (mainly stem related) uts has quite a good reputation similar to usyd and unsw, including some quant roles afaik, which are a big paying grad role. i also mentioned macquarie in the conversation with uts, usyd and unsw because im pretty sure they have a good reputation in finance, mostly because they also have acturial science as a program, but i would say they are weaker in many other fields.

(i think everyone here can agree that wsu is the worst option by far though for highly competitive fields excl health related fields, i say this even though i live very close to a campus and i really wish that they were more respected)

Wait so is usyd better for finance or unsw? How does one decide, provided they have met the atar requirements?
