HI guys with year 12 around the corner and thinking of dropping subject im honestly in a huge predicament here. So yeah, Im that guy that caught up for chemistry, passed the test and decided to not even join the class (im such an idiot for this and have regretted it every day since.) Well anyway,, now that i have been doing earth and feel I flunked the prelim for it I am seriously considering dropping it for yr 12 but don't have many options. I took a look at the Earth content in year 12 and it kinda looks pretty boring to me as well as the huge amount of writing we have to do in the HSC test for a pretty shitty scaler of a subject- I should of made the switch to chem when i could have :( ; kinda has made me depressed ngl. Should of listened to you guys but instead listened to my shitty annoying teachers. lol the funny thing is the whole reason i didnt switch was because it woud of affected my other subjects but im pretty sure I am doing pretty shitty in the prelims so far :(

Well anyway, my options are pretty limited- either e2 math or science extension.
I honestly feel I would enjoy e2 math but tbh dont know if im cut out for it. I have around a 77% average for e1 going into the prelim so am gonna have to absolutely cook for the prelim to probably get a offer of joining the class.

For science extension on the other hand, I could easily get into the course but tbh dont know if I can be bothered to write a huge depth study the entire year for a not even good scaler subject that is also just generally hard.

If you guys have any thoughts I would love to hear them!

Science extension is literally just a passion subject; if you have a good, unique idea for an extensive depth study, take it
Personally, mx2 was a very fun subject, take it if you make it into the class and try it out - it'll be a good experience for uni
what marks do i have to get in 4u to be worth y while- aiming for a 95+ ATAR. Also another question, for the UNSW bonus points do you still get the 5 bonus points for math advanced if you do mx2 as it is assumed you get a band 6?

like 60+ raw in 4u tbh the scaling is legit unfair
you won't get the bonus points coz you won't be taking the math adv hsc, but you'll get bonus points for 4u/3u anyway

4U scaling is wild, a 50 raw is like a 77 aligned which is 97 atar contribution

then again remember the amount of effort u need for a 50 raw is probably equivalent to a 92-93 in adv

Not at all, you can easily get 50 if you literally just do textbook questions
50 is like getting most of mcq correct and like q11-13 mostly correct which are all standard and trivial
You can nap till you have 30mins left to get rid of some of the sleep deprivation from English paper 1 and 2, and still score 50+

yeah 4u scaling is legit ridiculous, if u get good enough in 3u id say just take it and you'll probably be able to get above 50 anyways
but still, if you're not gonna be motivated to do the subject at all, you won't do well (if your school is gonna let you take the subject tho, you're probably at an appropriate level where you can learn the subject at a decent pace)

Yea adv maths is piss easy
Nesa knows this as well and its the reason why they don't allow mx2 students to take it cus there'll be thousands of more B6s

adv is like way easier but only if you're good at maths
like if you're in 4u ofc you're gonna find adv easy because its essentially just plugging in numbers and an easier version of everything you learnt in 4u, like there's not even substitution integrals lol
67 is still pretty good in trials for 4u fyi, depends on how tough the trial is, and plus you still have like 3 months to get better before hsc, i think i prob got around 75-80 in 4u trials or something can't really remember now.
but honestly u should still be really happy lol, hsc is mostly easier than trials, purely because the questions they ask are gonna be more "standard", they won't pull out some really random proof or anything (except maybe late q15-16), one exception topic is mechanics because they can ask about a lot of different stuff eg pulleys and all but then they scaffold the qs so it becomes easier
like look at the 2023 hsc, q11-13 are all basically textbook questions, q14 is slightly more involved and there's a couple of tricks to look out for but most of the marks are very attainable, q15 has a few tricks but if you've done trial papers you've probably seen most if not all of them before, q16 is then super tricky as it should be

Did you guys honestly find math adv too easy that it is kinda boring. No offence to anyone to adv or anything but i find extension way more fun due to it being harder.

Except some perms and coms questions are a killer

ye but I see what u mean in our trials I lost a few marks on 13,14 and 2 marks on 11 I don't wanna talk about it 😭 but 2023 hsc I barely lost marks up to 14 and 15 and 16 it went downhill quick but that is also in my bedroom while I'm relaxed compared to HSC with 200 ppl around me in an exam hall

yes adv math becomes soo dry especially cause I hate functions and graphs and all that waffle which 3u and 4u barely have

Yea, adv maths just spoon feeds you everything
Imho, it shouldn't exist because it's not comprehensive enough to be of real value in uni and doesn't provide any practical use like standard
