i wrote abt the caste system being infiltrated by British imperialism/colonialism, and my friend wrote about the different interpretations of marie antoinette, some people in my class wrote abt the different interpretations of Jesus and then there was one which reflected on the contestabiity of Japanese perspective of comfort women.

idk but like analysing like film movies/musicals tends to be liked by history teachers, someone i know did Hamilton one year and got sr for the essay. also doing like an analysis on a museum and the views it perpetuates has also been done well, but it might be hard if you can't get to the museum irl

honestly just do what you'd enjoy to research for the year. Don't pick something that you'd regret doing later on, I'd suggest starting with a specific time period in history that interests you then get more specific like event, personalities etc. As for the proposal it can reflect that you haven't come to terms with a topic. You could always change the topic anyways and reflect that process in your progress log. I did the legacy of Japanese war crimes from Japanese perspectives exclusively (I should've used some western sources as well to show diversity in sources).
(JSTOR will be highly useful for the project)
Hope this helps.
