Real I also lowkey hate performing I cried after trials. My OG plan was to do comp for ext but then I just wanted to spend my time making my one comp really good. Bro I'm stuck between studying law and studying music which are like complete opposites. we're all stuck in the same boat lol
My problem is there's no other course I'm interested in, I wish I was into law or something intelligent..😭 I got an offer to do comp at the conservatorium but again It feels like a waste of tuition if I'm not able to enter the workforce immediately post graduation

incidentally anyone here doing music ext? it's been a while but how do you feel about your elective? i did performance and it was a bit of a train wreck imo but whatever
Yeah Im doing Music Ext, I chose comp. I'm pretty confident about my comps, since this is my last year portfolio to enter the uni, and receive multiple awards in comp competition, I wish to get encore nominations🥲

relatively speaking but most people who do music ext have been playing their instrument for ages, and since hsc markers arent gonna mark at amus level etc, theres always like 30 people getting raw 50
So how they determine the state rank? Depends on school ranking or will they reference to music 2 mark?

depends on your hsc mark, which is a combo of internals and hsc. your ranking within your school in this subject may affect this.
music ext marks have nothing to do with mu2

yes but remember that these 30 people most likely have gotten 50 in internals too and are all ranked 1 or 2, compare the state ranks over the past couple of years, its clear that music 2 has an effect on extension

They reference the music 2 mark...
wait do they actually?
i thought your marks in each subject were completely independent of each other, like with other hsc subjects?

looking at the state ranks over the last few years, i agree that the same people do tend to appear on the mu2 and ext lists, but then again correlation does not equal causation - rather, it's maybe that these few people are just insanely good at music in general so achieve extremely well in both courses seeing as they're very similar in terms of skills tested. but i'm not privy to nesa's internal affairs unlike mhsctips2024, so idk

they usually are independent but as I said before, how do you do the tiebreaks? Because there will be people who have full marked everything. A nesa marker also told me they use music 2 to break ties so im inclined to believe it and everything does make sense. The more interesting question is how they break the music 2 ties

wow that's fascinating and also a bit scary
yeah i wonder about the music 2 ties as well, there are just too many people who are super talented at music. maybe that's when school rankings really come into play? idk

idk school internals never really made sense to me for tiebreaks cuz the whole point of ur hsc mark was to moderate your internal. so you could be punishing a school for having overall harder internals... idk the state rank process is so opaque most teachers have lost faith in it
