jokes here i feel bad: "

An action potential is an electrical impulse that allows neurons to transmit signals over long distances. The process begins with the depolarization of the neuron membrane. When a neuron receives a stimulus, voltage-gated sodium (Na⁺) channels open, allowing Na⁺ ions to rush into the cell. This influx of positive ions makes the inside of the cell more positive, causing the membrane potential to rise from its resting state of about -70 mV to around +30 mV.

After reaching this peak, the neuron undergoes repolarization. Voltage-gated potassium (K⁺) channels open, and K⁺ ions move out of the cell, restoring the membrane potential to a more negative value. This movement of K⁺ out of the cell reestablishes the negative internal charge.

Finally, the neuron briefly enters a state called the hyperpolarization phase, where the membrane potential becomes slightly more negative than the resting potential. The sodium-potassium pump then restores the resting potential by actively transporting Na⁺ out and K⁺ back into the cell, preparing the neuron for another action potential.

" just know this
all that knowledge is highly detailed but surely all that isn’t needed? looking back on past exam papers and they’ve never asked for something explicit on that. most I’ve ever studied for action potential was the -70mv threshold

bro yes its not they jsut knew nothing abt it so i was trynna give some info to underdtand its like the smallest dot point ever i summarised it in the message after all u need to know basically is sodium in then potassium out to maintain a neutral charge at rest basically

Does rank really matter that much, like so what that your rank 1?
in the hsc u get half of the makr u actually got int the hsc external and half of the mark of the person ranked first in the hsc exam (if ur first) so yes it matters if u cohort is really bad

hey, does anyone have any tips for bio mc? i usually get to the last two answers, but often pick the wrong one.
i can’t give specific advice cause obv the content pulled is random. but they’re usually evenly spread amongst the modules, so make sure you’re on top of revision

Also time wise, it’s pretty optimal (at least in my opinion) to blitz through multiple choice, finish the rest of the paper, have a little bit of extra time toward the end and spend that double checking/verifying my multiple choice

ok u ain gonna respond then lol. and yes, the only advice would be to do it quickly—im saying that because a lot of people get hung up over doing it right when realistically there’s a 25% chance of any of the 4 options. obviously you don’t want to botch it by selecting whatever at random, but you can knock out that section in a decent 15-20 mins rather than the recommended imo, which would give you tons of time for the rest. you’d be surprised at some people’s time management strats, don’t always assume that everyone is as good as you.
