Hi I am pshs 25 and I’m pretty sure u are as well… but anyways our cohort is pretty good in social sciences like eco, modern, legal etc but you are right in the fact that our sciences are quite lacking esp in terms of teachers. Honestly if I had to pick between girra and Penrith I’d still pick Penrith even though girra is half the distance away from me bc of facilities , social life and also our band 6 rate in important subjects such as English. English is extremely important for ur atar with pshs having 51 band 6s as compared to girras 16…. Quite poor 😀. Even though we have some lacking interesting people, I still do think our cohort isnt complete shit but if the person who asked this question is aiming for a high atar, going to girra can kinda of make things harder for u considering English.
im the person that asked the question, thanks for your advice but im not really pursuing english, more of a computing tech / maths guy lol

ye ik that its a mando subject in the hsc lmao
i get what you mean lol, just tring to say that you shouldn't not care abt eng. i wouldnt move to penrith just for the eng tho bc objectively out of 160+ kids ony 51 band 6'd which is much worse than some schools ranked below penrith. there are SO many kids that move from low ranked schools to penrith that end up topping their eng it's genuinely embarrassing

idk what's wrong with girra bc their band 6 number is SO MUCH lower this year than the previous few years (girra and penrith used to be equally as cooked at eng for many years) but i'm assuming if there band 6 number is so low they must have still gotten band 5s, which is a decent band to get if you are a strong STEM student. if you're like mid at everything or you want a 99+ atar tho the eng has to be good tho.

regardless of school if you suck at eng get tutoring bc it def helps in case your teacher doesn't give you good feedback

ALSO trust you prob don't know for sure you're a maths/computing tech guy in y9, it actually changes bc some ppl end up locking in year 11 so the competition gets harder and its tougher to top stuff you thought you were good at.

you're better off putting equal effort into everything bc thats exactly why high ranking schools like girra don't do well at subjects like eng. everyone is thinking "oh ill be ok even if i flop eng ill just memoriise good essays and hope for the best, im good at all of my other subjects anyways" and then end up tanking the subjects they could have band 6'd with more effort
