Should I drop to standard eng or not? Ive seen people say on here to not to.
so I got 14/25 for my first assessment and got recommended to drop down and 20 other people as well. They called us up and told us how it could fck our atar up if we dont and all that and that u need to lock in as hard as can if u decide to keep it 😭
What if I get rank 1 in standard eng in that cohort (hypothetically). Will that still negatively affect my atar? because I have seen people say on here that its just not worth it to drop down and that u can get a comeback in the next one. Well what if I dont?

firstly I thought I would make a comeback but after getting called out im not so sure anymore. How bad does a band 5 in eng standard affect ur atar coz obv band 6 is near impossible to achieve 😭

idk Im still wondering if I should keep it or not and I need to decide in the next few days so I would appreciate it if anyone can help me out and give me advice. thankss

keep eng adv. i reckon just work extra hard on it and do better, bc if you drop to standard there's no guarantee that you will be 1st and if you do bad on it then your atar is literally fucked. but if you do average on adv than its heaps better

I agree with keeping eng adv. Standard isn't much easier, and even if you band 4 adv it's probably better than a band 5 in standard (if you even band 5 it at all, because only like 14% get band 5 or higher)

well I know standard English students with Band 5 ATAR currently studying medicine so never give up that idea
yes I understand that
but at present circumstances I want to know how detrimental a band 5 in standard eng is because I dont want to end up up feeling guilty about dropping and realising later on that I was actually capable of doing adv 😭

it is almost always better to do advanced as long as you can perform reasonably; if you are consistently performing at a bare pass level then it would be better to drop it. standard scales abysmally. your school is telling you, and other students to drop because they are interested in maximising their band 6 rate, which is best served by dropping students from courses they are unlikely to perform well in.

Often wheh we mark the first HSC assessment it is generally the harshest marked so students realise how to express clearly the goal of markers is generally to see their marks rise and as there are 6 assessments ( 4 modules , trials and then HSC with the basis of your ATAR down to the last two mentioned .

Also you won’t need to a multi media presentation nor need a related text for human experiences from here so I wouldn’t be too hasty in changing . Because if you are average or above with your first assessment then band 5 would be considered high range at this stage and very favourable .

Hopefully this helps you . I suggest you look at your level advanced as , although you may not feel that way,, that mark is a reasonable start ,. If there were more below you than in front then you can think carefully . Standard English is not preventative and could raise your ATAR . Stamdard don’t have Shakespeare as compulsory and only do one text in Mod A. Otherwise there is not much difference.

Feel free to send a pm for more details about Adv/ standard English .
