After considering my rank distance between me and rank 1, I need around a 94-95 out of 100 to get into a band 6 range. I've been studying and revising but I'm a little nervous on how to approach questions which are completely new/require calculations in a new or interesting way. Take the last question of the 2024 Chemistry Paper:

Like, I get the general idea, it's just under the insaine pressure of the HSC, I'm worried that I'll not be able to get these sort of complex + unfamilliar questions.

Essentially, what should I be doing from here up until the chemistry exam to put myself into the best possible position to crack into the 94 or 95 range for the exam? Additionally, how well attempted would I have to do in this exam to get 94 (aligned)?

Finally, do people think this year exam will be harder or of similar difficulty to last year's exam? What are your predictions?

Thank you :) .

alignned you should need to get ~92 raw mark. Unfortunate reality of the sciences in the hsc. Very diminishing scaling return once you get above 90. I genuinely can't stress this enough, note that you expect 'complex' questions in all the hsc subjects you do. And realistically, given the vast contexts you can expect in these exams, you cannot 'get a general idea' just by using some magic 'trick' or 'secret code'. READ. then picture the process in your head (always take your time) and then it will simplify on its own. If your fundamentals aren't sharp (especially for long winded chemistry calcs such as this one) you cannot expect to understand what they are asking of you or the process by which you should attempt the question.

diminishing scale return at a high mark means the subject scales good. Are you wishing it scaled like history?
a 90 mark in math extension 2 is barely any different compared to a 98 in the same subject. That's cause the scaled mark is near the max of 50

The degree of scaling in the 90s raw is still pretty substantial in ext 2. The same cannot be said for the sciences like chem where 91 would scale to about 92 or 93. Whilst I understand that extension 2 is much harder, the very obscure nature of some marking guidelines in the sciences do compensate to some extent as there are marks lost to some very niche details. No I do not wish it to be scaled like history. I find maths the most enjoyable out of all my subjects so I do definitely want the scaling to remain the same if not better than last yrs (no bias here)
