First days of uni problem (1 Viewer)

So I'm going to be overseas for a bit and unfortunately there's a high chance that I might end up missing the first 2-3 days of uni. Is this like a really bad thing where I might get my degree withdrawn?? Kinda worried that I might have to miss my first overseas trip in 8 years just cuz of a start date.

Context: this trip was planned and booked 2 months ago and I didn't know the dates would hit like this. Also uni in question will likely be UNSW.

You won't get your degree withdrawn, don't worry. Check attendance requirements once you have decided your specific subjects for sem 1 next year... it might just mean you need to be slightly more careful about attending later in the semester, but that depends on specific units.

The only bad thing about it is the first few days normally has some intro stuff that can be helpful for getting your head around uni and the course and your subjects. But this is normally all available online afterwards anyway. The good thing is in first year it typically eases into actual content so you won't have much to catch up on.

Thank goodness honestly, I don't think I'll need to worry about later attendance since I tend to be very uptight on that (100% since year 7 lol) but should I try to email my course profs about it when I find out who they are or will it be fine as is?

I'm honestly hoping that I do make it back, even if it's the night before since I don't really wanna miss out too much on being social (don't wanna repeat my high school story again).

Honestly I wouldn't bother unless you are in a really small cohort degree. Most of the time attendance is not taken in lectures... if it is its just for them to look at correlation between attendance and marks. tutorials will likely be taught by phd students and the like who won't be offended if u miss a class.

Will you have labs in your degree? if so you ideally don't want to miss one bc they go through safety induction stuff that they make u do before actual labs. but labs hardly every start week 1, so that shouldn't be a worry. If you were for some reason going to miss one i would say email the lab coordinator and see if u can go to another later that week (depending on your timetable) but im sure they wont start at least until week 2.

It wont harm if you did emails the lecturers btw... but really none of them are going to mind at all. just watch the recording online, heaps of people do anyway.

all good... ive just done first year science so can say you will be fine missing a few days. worth catching up, if nothing else just a good habit. Don't get into the habit of missing classes though... trust me it happens quickly and its not worth it lol

Yeah I'm not the type to skip classes. Only thing that would stop me is a rail strike since it takes like 1.5h to get to the campus. Would have a good reason then.

lmao i only went to my campus a few times last term no one cares if you show up or not (unless your course has attendance requirements)
