No im just sating the authors quote on quote purpose that we always talk about in essays like how do we know its not made up, Shakespeare died over 200 yrs ago and we still analyse his stuff today. Like for example in RIII the play we can discuss the power of words and manipulation, did Shakespeare really intend to do that? or was he just trying to make money?. This is what im sure most students of english are quite annoyed with, it gets really bs at sometimes and like come on the questions are sometimes ridiculous. Giving as a literal scrn shot of a scene from a movie or film and telling us to write a 20 marker essay on how that reflects textual conversation, surely there is a better way we can asses and learn the english subject.
on top of that making the subject compulsory is just not fair, id genuinely say english studies or EALD is more useful than eng adv or std

I believe the criteria is fair. I don't like english but consider if we spent the same time on it as any other subject, for many of us english gets neglected and still.... 20/20 shows you cannot improve which is nearly never true. Idk i've just been reconsidering my stands a bit more over the last few days. I'm just talking from experience ig.
nah id disagree, I genuinely have some teachers loosing it over the type of structure used in my essay. for example 2 body vs 4 body for mod a

Teacher bias is smt i can agree with because for english there arent really any set rules. I think its just feels really crazy because there are no other subjects like this where different people can have different interpretations. Idk if any of you guys have this but whenever there is a disagreement on a mark, say if its really high or really low other teachers will also mark it and the highest mark will get awarded. I think that is a good system cause then we r allowed to discuss with different teachers on why we lost marks and ect. Also if you get 19/20 is it a problem? I mean, as long as the feedback is viable and makes sense whats wrong
im just saying bru the way the subject is assessed is kinda ass, and also the content is really not suitable for most people going to uni

Oh. I've heard my eco teacher discuss they do this when marking the extended response part of the HSC.
They get like two teachers to review the students writing and depending on the gap between the marks given by each marker, they might discuss deeper and provide reasons for why they thought a mark is allocated to the essay but if its really close like between an 18 and a 19, they usually go with the highest mark (Apparently).

At my school all the Eng teachers sit around in a table and pass the paper around and all agree on a mark

brcause of Shakespeare’s iconic and magnitude use of language to show us his purpose clearly exposed through his sensational manipulation of language with his artistic imagery and satirical analysis of his contemporary issues and controversies

honestly i disagree, even in subjects like stem, you're still writing essays and reports, every time you do an experiment in a lab as a scientist, you have to write a report about your experiment and in postgraduate environments those require a lot of research and can come up to 5,000 words.
however, there should be a more practical aspect in the english syllabus, right now i'd say its far more flowery than it needs to be

yeah but the content in the STEM report is quite useful as it discerns VAR which is quite important for the experimental evidence and theory to be justified and accepted by the scientific community. Thus, making it far more valuable than english where the content is essentially non-applicable for most UNI students. If you think english teaches structure and cohesiveness, there are many other alternatives essay subjects such as economics, histories, commerces etc which all teach you structure and cohesiveness. So I kinda don't see the point of english, by focusing more on things like language conventions it would be a far more beneficial subject to the overall populus, so yeah I dont think it should be compulsory and I'd say just about any subject is more useful and better than it.
