    binomial therom

    Substitution method, make a the subject in the first equation. an = -24 \Rightarrow a = -\frac{24}{n} Sub that into the 2nd equation to get \frac{n!}{2!(n-2)!}(-\frac{24}{n})^2 = 252 \\ \\ \Rightarrow \frac{n(n-1)}{2} \frac{576}{n^2} = 252 \\ \\ In case you're confused, this is because...

    binomial therom

    Expanding the first 3 terms using Binomial thereom gives (1+ax)^n = 1 + \binom{n}{1} (ax) + \binom{n}{2}(ax)^2 + \dots = 1-24x+252x^2+ \dots Equate the co-efficient with last 2 terms to get a set of simultaneous equations to solve. \binom{n}{1} a = -24 \\ \\ \binom{n}{2}a^2 = 252 I...

    binomial therom

I think you mistyped it and meant (1+ax)^n

    The Anime Thread

Seven deadly sins is the shizzzz. But yeah for some reason I'm getting hooked into Detective Conan and Magic Kaito.

Can someone please do the first one log2 x showing working and I'll do the other two

Re: Can someone please do the first one log2 x showing working and I'll do the other The change of base occurs again with the last term (changing from base 2 to base e), then you just factorise to get the given solution.

What textbook is good for hard polynomial and conic questions?

Cambridge and Terry Lee comes to mind.

    Business School Electives

Alright guys I'm nearly at the end of my degree and for my econ degree, I need 2 more business elective courses. So ironically, I tend to do better in conceptual courses like math than courses that involve quite a bit of memorisation. So what would be recommended for a guy who's good at maths...

    Please help integration

I would say you are, 15b Just needs you to show that the point (-4,-64) satisfies both of the given equations . Just sub the point in y = x^3 and also y - 12x+ 16 = 0 and you see that LHS = RHS 15c is integration with limits -4 to 2 (which was the point of Q15b) y1-y2

Is 4 Unit Maths worth keeping over a 100% 2 Unit mark?

Given your situation, if you were to study a science related course at uni, I would definitely say DO 4U maths regardless of whether you may do really well or not. But yes, if you're looking do take medicine, where you probably won't need your high school math knowledge, that would really...

Question about transitioning from 3U into 4U Maths?

To be more precise, there's a lot of statistics in Actuarial :D But yeah if you're looking to take up that degree, then obviously 4U maths would be more useful to apply after High school. Just aim for full marks in both 2U and 3U and you'll be set for 4U.

question about HSC results and preferences

The latter, any business would use any tactical marketing strategies they can get :(

question about HSC results and preferences

Yeah you can say that, and cash grabs for the uni sighhhh.

question about HSC results and preferences

I can't give a specific answer in regards to your major. But generally the difference between advanced and normal science is that you have to do an extra years of honours, however your courses for the first 3 years would be exactly the same. If I were you, I would put Adv Sci then normal Sci as...

Advice from past 3U Maths Students?

There's actually not that much content in 3U itself compared to 2U, since it's just 1 extra unit, but some people tend to struggle since they have to understand the 2U content in order to do 3U. My advice is consistency, do your homework every week and understand them and you should be...

    Help pls

    That means when you sub t = 8, P = 9I 9I = I 3^{8k} \Rightarrow 9 = 3^{8k} \\ \\ \Rightarrow k= \frac{1}{4} Now that you found k, you sub t = 12 to get your answer. (27)

    maxima minima help

    1. you find dR/dm (differentiate with respect to m), then let it equal to 0 and solve for m, make sure that the solution is positive. 2.i 180 is correct. 2ii) you have to solve the equation, 60t-5t^2 = 100 The answer has to be greater than 6 since it occurs after reaching the maximum height.

    logarithm and exponential calculus

    woah this isn't something you should do when you've just started learning it. But anyways in 4a) you need to know your indices and log law well. \int e^{2-lnx} \ dx = \ \ \int \ e^2 e^{-lnx} \ \ dx = \\ \\ e^2 \int e^{ln\frac{1}{x}} \ \ dx \\ \\ = e^2 \int \frac{1}{x} \ \ dx \\ \\ = e^2...

Social life at UNSW and USYD?

You only hear this because they're one of the things that stand out, however they only represent a small minority of the students there. While maintaining a healthy social life is a bit more difficult since people have different courses etc, a lot of people I've met are very open minded and have...

    integration by substitution

I take that you mean this \int \ \ \sin(2x+1) \ \ dx = \int \ \ \sin(2x+1) \ \ \frac{d}{dx}(\frac{2x+1}{2}) \ dx We know that \frac{d}{dx} (\frac{2x+1}{2}) is 1 so they basically subbed that 1 into the integral in the right hand side. Using the Substitution , you sub it into the equation...
