    Getting ahead in uni

^This; you must use effectively to get those good grades you may aspire to.. The mid-sem breaks are vital lifelines. A chance to actually catch up on all the topics that may have flew by!

    Textbook for new syllabus

I know at least one selective school that has decided on the Pearson Texts for Chem... (I havent seen the book myself though) http://www.pearson.com.au/educator/secondary/browse-resources-online/pearson-biology-chemistry-physics-nsw/components/ My personal advice for anyone who is dedicated to...

Good Question; MQs people/planet policies can be quite confusing to the uninitiated. My understanding is; Yes POL108 should be eligible as a people unit because it is no longer part of your compulsory units for your degree as you have selected POL101 to fulfill that requirement. Keep in mind...

How do we register for classes?

Yep, depending on the credit points you have, the classes tab will become active again between now and Monday; you should have got an email about this about a week ago?

Hi Ben, (I think we discussed this elsewhere but..) Math288 is a great taste of what the post-grad Math world could look like. The unit runs in conjunction with Math388 (the 288 students are supposed to be graded easier!) and the topics depend on the lecturers assigned to the unit. If you still...

Buying textbooks based on unit guides

Those 1st year core units are unlikely to change their text resources. Geos112, for example, is a book designed specifically for the unit. As for purchasing; another option is to borrow from the library until such time as the prescribed texts are recalled and put in the reference section.

The good people at student connect have today resolved a request I submitted at the beginning of November! :) They get there eventually.

i concur with the advice from ilikecats... Pika it seems like you'd like to get a head start on reading during the break; I'd recommend emailing the lecturer listed in the archived Unit Guide from 2017 and asking their opinion on particular textbooks. Assuming they're still at work, you should...

You can change your enrollment in units. If you have a pre-req requirement that are just a misunderstanding or some sort of obstacle you think you will overcome then you are best served submitting an askMQ request form. Depending on the unit you're dealing with, you should find that you need to...

I'll be doing Geos112 with you! :) As others have said, if you find yourself struggling with any particular topic (especially a Stat / math type concept) don't be afraid to reach out for a consultation with the lecturer. It's saved my ass more than once!

    Goals for 2017 at Macquarie

I resolve not to wipe myself out on two consecutive weekends of pub crawls in 2018 during semester! Really made me struggle coming into exams this last week.

PHL137 is pretty easy and actually an interesting subject, as most Philosophy units tend to be... I was dreading my people unit but I strolled through with a HD in Critical Thinking whilst most of my actual studies and efforts went to my 'real' units! :)

    Science Subject Review Thread

Terrific :) Try and spend a few weeks revising your Ext Math in Jan/Feb, you'll find first yr Math a little like going over old ground but with deeper analysis, proofs and a little extension beyond... Good luck with your results! 2nd yr Math was a little hit & miss with lecturing styles but the...

    S1 2017 Exam results waiting/discussion thread (MQ)

I'm a little unsure you read the emphasis in my post accurately? Re - 3 / 2 hr exams, you and the Professor have correctly regurgitated what I have experienced with the new 2 hr Math format. However, not only is there less content examined, but also the 'extension' or traditional Section B...

    S1 2017 Exam results waiting/discussion thread (MQ)

May I ask if the Final was a 2 or 3 hr exam? I just found out I have an overall 96 in Math235, it was a 2 hr exam (worth 40%) and so they cut all the Gnarly Qs from the days of yore, and of course it's easier to do well. I can honestly say (apart from Physics exams) last years Math135 3 hr exam...

Turned out to be an inspired choice to drop this Unit. Bit of a whinge but, MQs policy states students should receive some sort of assesment/grading/feedback prior to census - I had to email my lecturers regarding our first assignment (we have done no other quizzes/tests nothing..), got email...

"Usually" the whole concept of a Tutorial is to discuss/do problems in a small group based on a previous weeks lecture(s)... that's why a lot don't bother starting until week2 - but as nothing in a week 1 Tutorial is, likely, assessable then I'm sure you'll safely adapt to whatever the heck...
