I don't agree with 1. 2. it depends - there are some ideas that don't require a beginning, but see our observable universe as a part of something bigger. 3. Why is this cause God?

Matter didn't exist, it was formed from energy. You could argue that energy did exist, but that depends on which theory you subscribe to. Some have a balance of positive and negative energy, meaning that no energy actually existed at t = 0.

There are lots of ideas, Hawking's is interesting: By that, the analogy of the Big Bang as being like the North Pole hold :) But that's just a very simplified version of one idea and we have to admit that we don't really know yet.

Well 2nd year maths (MATH2061/2961) is a corequisite for advanced second year physics, but i guess it might be possible to get it waived. I haven't heard of anyone being accelerated in physics, even though some of my friends did participate in the Physics Olympiad.
