I'd be careful with saying that, mining =/= petroleum engineering even if both resources come from the ground and the working lifestyles are similar.

There's really no difference. An engineering employer isn't going to care if you went to USYD or UNSW, they're both very reputable unis. UNSW Engineering does have more modern facilities though, while USYD's seem like they haven't been updated since it was created. It's probably more important...

Engineering in the O&G and Mining sectors fits that nearly perfectly (except for the exotic part, although if it's remote it's probably not going to be exotic).

If you enter uni with a combined degree, but choose to only pursue one of the two degrees then you do have the option of dropping the other degree at any point.

I don't think there are night classes for engineering, you'll need to drop out of FT work and go into PT if you can.

Also you don't need to combine commerce with anything to have a shot at IB (combining it with something you don't like can actually have an adverse effect). Just aim to do honours in comm and you'll be fine, it will make you as competitive as the others. I agree with Chronost's tldr btw

What about science? Science is pretty visual, it's in everyday life.

Yeah, civil is a lot easier. Civil and chem are (from what I hear) the easiest engineering streams. Although that being said they are still quite challenging, even if not as hard as electrical or mechanical.

Had engineering dynamics today, was so freaking hard. One of the questions was nothing like anything we've seen. Would be lucky to get 50 in the exam I reckon, but I think I managed to pass the subject.
