Re: Hmm... Tone: positive/negative, resisting/embracing, optimistic/pessimistic, general implied attitude of composer towards responder. In visuals, it may involve colour. E.g. The Door's tone is one of encouragement "Go and open..." beckons one to do something. Angles: if you're...

    HARDER 3 UNIT qs

No, inequalities are NOT hard. Here are the usual tricks: 1. Bring all to one side and prove either strictly non-negative or non-positive (whether it be <= or >=) 2. Try AM>=GM ALWAYS (even if you can't see it). See a product on one side and a sum on the other? Think AM>=GM. Can't see...

    Here's a listing of language/visual techniques I compiled...

TONE is v important. I've seen 1 or 2 change papers where they ask what the tone of this-or-that text is, and how it conveys change. Visuals - u could mention angle (bird's-eye or worm's-eye) Also, you have to link techniques to text type (e.g. news article - subheadings, captions, film -...

    Predictions

I think it's almost 100% certain we're gonna get a sept-11 article as one of the "change" texts for comprehension, so start thinking about how has 9/11 changed things.

    Memorising Essays...???

Memorise quotes and examples of techniques, and practice relating these "evidence" to areas/modules: change, etc. Put in connectives and you have paragraphs. IMHO you don't need to memorise connectives. Oh, and also memorise parts of a good introduction. You should have several ideas...

    combination?

I got 270 as the answer too. Some sydney boys teacher has some real competence problems.

Ok, then there's one more sample space: 5,5 so p = 2/11 If confused over probability, draw a box diagram

    Well since you notice that "ONE" face was a 5, that means that the other one isn't. So sample space = 10: 1,5 2,5 3,5 4,5 6,5 5,1 5,2 5,3 5,4 5,6 Two of these give a sum of 8. Thus probability is 2/10 = 1/5

I'm sorry to say that not only is 8C3 NOT obvious, it's also wrong. For argument's sake, lets rename the 1st E "E1", and the 2nd E as "E2" Then there would be 8C3 different ways of choosing 3 letters from the now-distinct 8. However, now remember that in the real question, both E's are...

    Circle geo Q.

I've NFI. It would work for 4u, but 3u? I've to ask my teacher.

    mmmmmoooooorrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee

The answer IS wrong. Here's the right way: FREQUENT: there are 7 different letters, and 2 'E's So there are two types of 3-letter words: 1) Two 'E's and something else: the "something else" is one of the 6 non-'E's (i.e. F,R,Q,U,N, or T) and this "something else" can either be in the...

    Circle geo Q.

Here's a nice little alternative proof: Consider the centre of circle, O, and consider the line, l, through O, perpendicular to all 3 chords PQ, RS, LM, and intersects these chords at A, B, C respectively. Since l is perpendicular to all 3 chords, and l passes thru centre of circle, l...

    differentiating binomials

My advice would be: If in doubt, try it anyway. Tricks like integrating/differentiating are like cards - u don't always need to use them. It's good to have them in your hand anyway. When a question involves integrating/differentiating, when you use the trick to goto the next step, it's...

    What's a good mark?

My teacher tells me the question 8 is supposed to separate the top 10 in the state from the rest...so i guess, aim to get 6 and a half questions right wot's that? 97/120? jus my guess...

    Polynomials

From the property that cos(x) = -cos(x + pi) (draw a circle diagram and see for yourself) Thus, cos(5pi/8) = -cos(-3pi/8) since cos is an even function -cos(-3pi/8) = -cos(3pi/8)

    I'm a Genius!!

Well, actually, the definition of |x| = sqrt(x^2) :apig:

    Polynomials

    The stuff you quoted was the mathematics of doing this: We've p(y) = 8y^4 - 8y^2 + 1 and we've determined that when y = cos(x), p(y) = cos(4x) When p(y) = 0, cos(4x) = 0 Then ask yourself, for what values of x are there (0 <= x <= pi would suffice) such that cos(4x) = 0 ? these are...
