    Preliminary Exams

yes but ask your teachers to make sure. chemical earth isn't a 'syllabus' it's a module, i.e. part of the prelim syllabus, so if you guys studied metals or any other modules as well before your exams you could be assessed on that too.

urban dynamics and ecosystem at risk

You might want to have a look at HSC papers, and then trial papers to see what normally comes up. Also, do you mean urban places (the whole 2nd module) or urban dynamics (a section of urban places), just in case you got confused.

Want to drop ext 1 maths :(

Plenty in my cohort got 99+ without 3u or without doing maths at all. Just as long as you do well enough in your other subjects you should be ok.

    study notes worth the time?

Study notes are quite useful, but if you're REALLY pressed for time I think it's better to just focus on exam technique and do a stack of past papers instead of trying to perfect your notes. Personally, I only used them for last minute rote learning of annoying and obscure concepts - water...

    Internal Assessments

Rankings are most important, but I think the board also takes into account relative gaps between rankings (if you were only 1 or 2 marks off, or 20 marks off the person in front of you).

    Always sleeping after school?

If you have a long train or bus commute, maybe try napping then? That's what I did during HSC, but transport always makes me sleepy haha

A good related text for away by Michael gow! Help please !!!

I used Yearbook by Bernardo Britto (short film) but it was for Gray's poems. Our teachers advised us to find something a little different (they said Shaun tan picture books for example) and not the same text type as your core.

    Chemistry - moles

Im on my phone atm so can't do the question, but for molar calculations usually you do the following: 1. Write balanced equation. 2. Calculate moles of any species based on data from question (in this case the moles of NaCl using moles = mass divided by molar mass). 3. If required, determine...

    Post your chemistry mistakes here!

Personally, the best way for me to time manage was to do multiple choice quickly (~10 min) then work through the paper chronologically. I would leave out any tricky questions or >5 markers to do later (basically the ones where the answer doesn't come straight away) so I don't get too bogged...

Good science tutors in Fairfield area?

Yeah basically. I was ranked below average in junior science and couldn't balance equations till end of year 10 :/ I guess I just really liked the subject haha. I'm doing dent sci at UQ :)

Good science tutors in Fairfield area?

Bump for Peter! If you want someone who can explain concepts really well, he's the guy to go to. I almost didn't pick chemistry in Year 10 as I never understood it in junior science but Peter really helped me with both exam technique and understanding the course in detail. Couldn't have gotten...

    Galvanic Cell Validity

Off the top of my head, maybe try to adhere to the 'standard conditions' as much as possible? Like 1M electrolyte solutions, RTP. Can't really use hydrogen half cell in school environment. Also, sand the electrodes (except lead because toxic) to remove corrosion.

    Post your chemistry mistakes here!

I forgot to put borders around a table for a prac lol. Lost 2 marks gg Another silly mistake I made was for the 'describe process of manufacturing sulfuric acid in industry' where I talked about manufacture of sulfur through frasch process - got 0/3. It's important to read the question carefully.

Is year 12 much harder than year 11?

Yep, like InteGrand said, HSC Chemistry (didn't do physics) is essentially expanding upon the principles you would have learnt in prelim. The 'societal and environmental impact' side of prelim is quite similar to Junior Science as you still cover relatively general concepts (metals and alloys...

Anyone keen to share their after school schedule?

Different strokes for different folks, so you really just have to try and see what works for you. In my HSC year, I would usually do most of my study during frees (had at least 2 hours a day) then go to a library or cafe after school to do more study until about 6. Went home, ate dinner, then...

    Should I change Chem?

If you don't like prelim Chem then you probably won't like HSC Chem unless you enjoy learning about industrial methods and societal and environmental effects of chemicals. Stick it out for first term or semester, if you don't like it just drop it. Don't do a subject based on scaling, it is a...

Is there a full set of ahmad shah idil notes?

They are pretty comprehensive, I think he got >95. The revised notes are better.

    10 vs 12

+1 for 10 units. Ended up doing 8 units in my HSC year so I only had 13 hours of classes out of 25 in a week, and I think it worked out quite well. Then again, to each their own. If OP doesn't think they can use their frees effectively or cope with the pressure of having no 'backup' then 12...
