does ANYBODY enjoy their text for english?

I personally didn't hate the concept/ideas behind making us do English nor did I hate the texts (except for Yeats - don't get me started on Yeats). It was just the inconsistencies in the marking that gave me the shits and hence led to my hate of the subject.

    10 units or 12?

I guess it depends on you but if you feel that you can handle the extra units then I would say by all means stick with it. If you do 10 units then you are basically stuck with them for your UAI and if you bomb one in the HSC then your UAI will suffer accordingly. On the other hand, if you manage...

does ANYBODY enjoy their text for english?

It really depends on the text - I really loved Frontline (who doesn't?) and quite enjoyed BNW but Yeats can go screw himself as far as I'm concerned.

    bad handwriting

I don't necessarily think its more "professional" to write with black pen but I think it's much easier for them to read in bad lighting. A teacher in Year 10 was telling us that the marking centre at 10pm has horrible lighting and blue pens don't stand out as much as black ones do and so its...

    bad handwriting

Wow...this thread really strikes a chord with me. I had a similar problem with teachers refusing to read my horrific handwriting last year. I guess that I was a bit slow to react to it in that I didn't really do anything serious about it until I got slaughtered in my trials. (Although before I'd...

    study

Yeah mnemonics (I assume that's what you meant risole) are really helpful if you're creative enough to think them up (or steal them off others). They're especially good if you have to remember a lot of points e.g. all of the factors impacting something in which case a letter might trigger your...

    Studying over Holidays

These holidays will be like the last ones you can take carefree before the pressure starts building. Personally, this time last year I did absolutely nothing - I actually enjoyed my holidays - and I still got quite a good UAI (or very good depending on your standards). Now really isn't the...

    James Ruse

No my friend, the question is do YOU want to bet. From someone who went to Ruse for 6 years, trust me, no-one from the school is allowed to do ESL or Standard English in the HSC. Try to get your facts straight; this year there were over 80 and on average there at least 60-70 annually. I...

That's hardly a likely story - we aren't even ALLOWED to do anything lower than English Advanced.

    FAQ for HSC

Not necessarily - generally it gives a decent indication and in some cases a freakishly accurate one but it depends on whether you "screwed" one of your trial exams - this is especially relevant if you did very well in that subject in the other assessments. However, even if you screw up...

    James Ruse

Hmmm... "harder"... I dunno. Maths is definitely something that Ruse is quite a while ahead of everyone else in although at the beginning of year 11, they shove all the newbs into one class together so they can catch up together. As for other subjects.. I'm not really too sure how much...

    Premier's Awards

Re: Premier's Awards...? ditto... if we don't get the trophy then I feel ripped off - a trophy is surely more expensive than a piece of paper/cardboard =P

    James Ruse, nsghs, sghs

I have to agree with the not understanding changing schools. If you're at the top of your new school then chances are you would've been at the top of your old one and achieved similar marks. If you're at the bottom of the pile or only average but are used to being first all the time then it can...

    Umat

Cheers, drynxz (excuse the pun - or am I attempting to pronounce it incorrectly lol) UMAT prep programs really are a bit dodgy. In retrospect I have to doubt whether it actually helped me at all. I think UMAT is something that you just either have a knack for or you don't (esp sections 2 and...

    Will this work??

You still have a really good chance of making it to UWS/UNCLE. Looking at the files on UWS' site, for last years entry 37% of successful applicants had a UAI of 95-97 (which I'm assuming is 95-97.95 cos the next category is 98-100). Also, if I'm not mistaken (which I might be) only a little over...

    Umat

Actually the UMAT is double the length of what you said - 44 in 65, 36 in 45 and 30 in 40 (don't hold me to that cos I've forgotten) Whether going to a prep course helps is debatable - you can't really say for sure that you wouldn't have gotten the exact same thing with(out) the course. Case...

    All Rounders eligibility?

Yeah they're not gonna have the ceremony this year; I assumed they'd still be giving out the crappy glass thing but maybe I was mistaken. Just a point of interest - can you still get the Premier's Award if you don't get band 6 for english i.e. does it have to be the 10 units you count or...
